ta-dah~ That last shot, that I thought would look weird with added text, is cropped so low that the text wouldn’t be visible anyway so I didn’t edit those frames.
There is some inconsistency because the animation is kind of not very consistent. The… aspect ratio? of the kanji kept changing, so that was fun to try and match. Everything within a given shot should be consistent with itself, though.
Let me know if there’s anything else you need, or if you want me to change anything!

Is this close to what you had in mind? I made the text a bit darker than the kanji for better visibility, but I can change that if you’d prefer.
And you’re right, it does look way better like this than blanked out and re-written!
What would you like me to do with frames where the kanji are only partially visible? I figure anything where at least most of one of the kanji is visible I’ll overlay with the text (cut off by the edge of the screen in some cases), but the shots that are like 99% Juudai’s hair would look strange with added text, I think?
And on the frames where the scroll is at an angle, should I angle the text to go with it?

Nailed it! Maybe just have to move “spirit” down a few pixels so it’s more centered, but yeah, that’s the idea! Looks good being slightly darker, so that’s fine.
Hmm… yeah, wherever most of the kanji’s visible, overlay the cut-off text. If you could, keep the positioning consistent; if you can’t in some spots, it’s cool. With shots like Judai’s hair, if you’re able to mask Judai’s hair over the text, you could add the text and have Judai’s hair cover most of it; otherwise, you can add the text anyway and I’ll work on masking his hair over it in Vegas. Same with the later Shou shots mixed in there. If the words’ placement in the other shots correspond with the parts of the kanji they’re over, and those parts are visible, the text should be visible too. (Hope that sentence makes sense lol)
With the ones where the scroll is at an angle, yeah, if you could, try to match the angle with the text. Same where they’re at an angle and the kanji are blurred.
No worries about the questions, I appreciate the attention to detail! Also, realized I goofed with one of the shots; here’s one of those Daitokuji shots with the scroll’s kanji there:
For this one, I’m thinking I’ll mask this over the original pan and zoom it out accordingly after the scroll’s entirely visible, instead of having you do the extra work with each frame.
(Though, out of curiosity, would you be able to color Pharaoh’s tail in too, during this pan? If you can, I’ll send over the frames with it visible and I guess you could also slap the text on anyway lol. If not, it’s alright; I’m thankful you’re helping with this at all!)

Shame this whole remaster thing is just a lazy crop-job, though. :/ Also disappointed that those shots of Jou/Honda/Anzu in VOICE and the pictures over Genki were just stills (and the panning with the VOICE ones adds insult to injury). The asymmetry going on (especially at the beginning with the Eye) also bugged me, and I didn’t like how the “20th remaster” thing looks on the breakcut, pasted RIGHT onto the Puzzle. At least they kept the shaking for the logo, though.
Meh, guess all that’s left is to hope an accurate dub’s on the way sometime for this. Then, we can just mux it onto the original video lol.

AWESOME. Thank you so much for finishing the job there! Them being jpegs didn’t really affect things; what worried me was that a few of the frames you sent me had a “selection” line on top, but masking in a few pixels from thepalebride’s edited frames did the trick. I just spent maybe 30-40 mins adjusting everything, and it looks great! I’m about to post a preview video. :)

And now, for anyone else who has awesome Photoshop skills, while thepalebride was able to get the clouds all text-free for these frames, the lyrics were a bit hard for her to erase and redraw Manjoume’s coattails well.
Would anyone else be able to tackle that part of the frames? I included a few reference frames from the textless version, in case that’d help with Manjoume’s torso.

OKAY SO this isn’t perfect, because the part where the credits was doesn’t move with the rest of the clouds (I tried to make that happen and the results were very sad) but it’s not that noticeable, especially since it’s so short. I made a gif of what it looks like and if you think it’s acceptable, I’ll edit the lyrics out too!
(also apparently I’m not logged in in Chrome and Firefox is throwing some kind of tantrum right now, but I think you can tell who this is. :P )
