…Well, honestly that’s a fair enough assumption for him to make. Especially after Yubel so recently caused trouble for his friends and the school specifically because of him. Judai has obviously started to feel like he attracts this danger to the school and that if he leaves then maybe everyone will be safe this time.

The fact that Judai doesn’t feel interested in dueling during the graduation duels until someone actively seeks him out is so telling
Duels are his favorite thing. This is the boy who got hyped up and excited for life-threatening duels with universal stakes. Not wanting to duel
He says he’s tired and wants to relax, which is… all just cover for his depression
He ends up dueling but even that he doesn’t do excitedly. He duels Sorano and is sure to keep up a smile but there’s something that isn’t there in a duel with a stranger that there is in say, his duel with Asuka

I know I highlighted this line in another post, but shit, the more I think about it the more it unsettles me.

Maybe this is a matter of translations sometimes not conveying things properly, but… when you think of someone’s life being “cut short”, it means they died at a young age.
So does Yusaku consider himself to be dead, in a way? Does he think his life ended ten years ago? Like even after all this is over, he’ll never truly be alive?
This honestly keeps getting worse the more I think about it.
hmm, in the Spanish subs they put is as “My life was fractured”
In Japanese, he says “人生 が 途切れた” = “Jinsei ga togireta”
(Or at least that was what I understood with my current level)人生(Jinsei)= Life
が (ga)= is just the particle
途切れた (togireta)= the verb, which can have two meanings.
Because of all this, I interpreted it as if his life was paused/interrupted because of that incident/trauma. Maybe because he couldn’t move on (as we saw) or because he does not remember how was life before. If I remember correctly, he wants to get back his lost memories.
Very interesting! Okay, that makes that line a bit less ominous, if slightly so.
