Please watch the Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie in your Cinema. Buy the DVD (recent news: english & japanese will be available), support the franchise. This is the only way to show them that we care about Yu-Gi-Oh and Movie, Series and Merchandise releases.
It’s okay to watch a leak. But don’t forget to support the real thing.
Before posting my review of this week’s episodes, I’d like to say something:
IDGAF that Yuzu and Yuya are not “real” children of Yusho and Shuzo, they have been raising them since they are babies and both obviously love them deeply.
I mean of course the writers are now pulling at our heartstrings on the “Zarc manipulated Yusho into grooming one of his pieces blah blah blah”
So what? The point remains: Yuya and Yuzu were raised and loved by them, they are familydamn it.
On one hand, I can understand why people dislike Sayaka
but the tag is full of nothing but hate toward Shun/Sayaka…
which hasn’t been confirmed a thing???
Like… Shun kind of just treated her like he would probably treat Ruri, and considering that Sayaka and Ruri have been best friends since before the war, Shun and Sayaka have probably known each other for YEARS. Shun kind of just treated her like family? He’s gone out of his way to protect younger kids before, after all. Plus, imagine him having to tell Ruri that Sayaka got smooshed by a boulder after all is said and done. Not a good thing.
Shun would have jumped into that mess for any of his present comrades. Sayaka just happened to be the one in immediate danger, which is likely going to be a huge part of her character arc, as she learns to face her fears and stand against the enemy with her allies instead of giving into her panic. She’s not going to just magically be OKAY I’M GOOD TO FACE THE ENEMY when she sees Chaos Giant – remember what happened to most of her classmates and fellow resistance members the last time she saw it.
And there wasn’t even like, romantic subtext in Sayaka’s flashbacks in the last few episodes? She just felt really guilty about what happened to Ruri and felt like a burden on Shun, who has likely spent the last year protecting the younger resistance members and helping them train before he fucked off to Standard. They’re basically just… family, really. If Sayaka were a male character, nobody would give a single shit about what went down, and it highly likely wouldn’t have spurred this amount of tag spam, either.
I mean I’m not even a huge fan of Sayaka as a character, though I do think her role is really interesting. But seriously? Cut it out. If you’re going to say things like “ugh this ship makes me wanna PUKE” kindly don’t tag your posts and keep that negative shit to your blog, not displayed openly across the community?? We’re all here to have a good time, and you’re ruining that.
Some people are going to like things you don’t like, and if you have constructive criticism, feel free to make conversation about it or whatever if you are prompted and the other person is willing to engage. But imagine if someone posted such things about one of your favorite ships before you feel like tagging a bunch of angry and senseless hate. Yeesh.
As much as I adore ARC-V, but the Synchro arc was by far the worst arc in Yugioh history.
You know what I would fucking love? Instead of being constantly told that it’s the worst arc in the entirety of YGO (which is… BS cuz I can tell y'all about some other arcs that are really bad…), why not say WHY and HOW it is.
Cuz all I have gathered is the fact that everyone wants to get to Academia already and is very impatient.
I don’t understand why this arc is so bad, I really fucking don’t. The pacing has been the same as it has been since the beginning. We got development with our main character, with our side characters, world-building, characters being brought back to further enhance the world and bringing development and meaning to the mains and their growth.
This anime is literally following one linear plot, to defeat Academia and bring peace to the dimensions. That’s a pretty big fucking story and we’re gonna be going to other worlds and SEE these other worlds that the fucking story has told us about and now we get to see them and further expand upon them.
am I the only one who like… REALLY loved the duel between Selena and Yuugo? I don’t even care that Selena lost, because it’s the only duel she’s ever lost, and she had fun dueling and learned that like logic, entertaining your audience and taking chances are also important while dueling. she developed as a character from this defeat and she was like, the best loser. she didn’t take any of the cheats Roger provided for her and in the end she smiled and shook Yuugo’s hand and congratulated him… like… I love that duel it’s good.
Having portuguese as my native language and interacting mostly with media originally in english only makes me more bothered by people trying to justify Fire Emblem Fates’ awful translation. As soon as I learned enough english to watch untranslated videos and movies, I was shocked when I tried rewatching them. Many had completely different tones or straight up different dialogue, since they were butchered by some poor underpaid soul during translation. English is a language commonly studied in Brazil, by far the most important when looking for a job, and both public and private schools try their best to teach it, yet even so big companies get away with terrible localizations.
Don’t get me wrong, if you are fluent in multiple languages you should know: a good translator is a “liar”. There are just too many expressions and puns that simply can’t be translated directly, so completely literal translations always end up like poorly worded messes. In those cases, a translator’s job is to look for a workaround of sorts, a similar expression or wordplay that preserves the original meaning and tone, even though he chooses different words and such. In a few cases a translator is forced to change something in order to match local age ratings, but that wasn’t what I’ve seen so far for Fates.
A translator has no right to modify the original dialogue and story simply because he thinks it’s not “witty” or funny enough. Their job is making media accessible to people, and not attempting to replace the writer.
So like I finally got to watch the subs for last week’s episode and
what hit me the hardest and stuck with me was that little tiny moment
where Reira grabs Sora’s jacket and whispers “I don’t want you to
go.”
This child has been fighting so hard. He had beaten so many
enemies, but it’s starting to wear on him. He feels alone and
helpless and he’s starting to go into a panic attack over his PTSD
hallucinations. Yuya is unable to help because he’s trapped in his
own duel; Selena can’t help because she’s still paralyzed, Reiji is
so far away. Reira is alone. He is going to fail.
And then Sora appears. He appears out of nowhere and kicks asses,
clearing away the villains that were threatening Reira at the time.
Sora of course wasn’t necessarily doing it for Reira specifically, it
was just to fight off Academia.
But for Reira, that’s a powerful moment. Sora rescued him.
Yuya is out of reach, Reiji is too far away, but Sora is here, he’s
an ally, and he’s not afraid the way that Reira is. This is someone
that Reira suddenly feels like he’s able to reach out to for support.
And for Reira, he needs that. He can act as strong as he wants, but
he’s still just a scared child who needs someone to help him feel
safe, and at that moment, Sora made himself a candidate for that.
I really hope that the upcoming episodes do at least a little
something more with Reira and Sora in light of this.
But mostly I just really want to see Reira on the verge of tears
because he’s scared and Sora not knowing what to do, and then Reira
just hugs him because he needs someone and Sora just sits there with
his arms frozen at his sides like “child is hugging me what
do?????”
I think people attacking Yuya for having a crisis of faith when he drew smile world is really stupid. I mean to Yuya, smile world represents his father, someone he wants to reach and someone that represents his ideals, a way to win peacefully. Despite what people think, I don't think its easy to throw away your ideals. And despite that Yuya still decided to go against his ideals to protect his friends
First people don’t like that he’s so insecure, then people don’t like his entertainment duelist ideals, then people don’t like that he wavers in them when they get challenged, and now people don’t like that he temporarily choose their friends safety over them because it was impractical.
And you’re right Yuya felt bad for doing so but he knew he had to or else he ran the risk of risking both Serena and Reira, like he was so lost in thought while debating what to do that Barret called into attention, how much more explicit people want it without being turned into poor exposition?
I do not mean in any way that his character is above criticism, but there’s criticism and there is bashing and people who always had problems with Yuya as a protagonist from the beggining (insert whatever reason you want here), will always find an excuse to dislike or attack him merely for being himself.
To the followers who don’t say much: having you there still means a lot. Even if you never send in an ask or anything, I don’t care. I appreciate that you still follow me anyways. And it’s nice to see you there liking and reblogging my stuff.

Since we’re back to MonoSubs being the primary group people rely on to sub ARC-V since ruSUBan is no longer doing subs, please feel free to follow @monoker0s on Twitter for updates.
Please be grateful to the fansubbers (i.e. don’t be the rude anon who was upset at ruSUBan for not releasing in under 24 hours). They don’t have to do this; it’s a service to the fandom - if you’re going to complain, ask yourself if you could do it better first.
GX_ST also does subs (they are the NeoArkCradle group), but NAC requires an account to access their links. They are also the group that provides the raws for ARC-V.
I
would ask them if they had actually watched the goddamn show, and if
they had, if it’s the same show I watched.
Judai
has one of the most poignant character arcs of any Yu-Gi-Oh character
that I’ve ever known. Just put a picture of his Season 1 self beside
his Season 4 self. The differences aren’t just visible, they’re
easily readable. His entire face has seemed to close in on itself,
become sharper and harder as well as older.
Judai
started as an underachieving, overly cheerful young boy that just
wanted to have fun. A mask he had integrated fully into himself to
hide his own flaws from himself, making himself believe that
everything would be okay if he just smiled and had fun with his life,
taking each day as it came.
And
then his world was shattered around him and he learned that he
couldn’t live his life the way that he trying to. And he had to try
and change and adapt to the new information telling him that his way
of life was not beneficial to him.
He had
to face his own darkness and learn how to come out on the other side.
If that’s not character development, I don’t know what the hell is.
