browsing through the arc v tag I just blocked and reported 82 spam blogs. WTF? Seriously the entire tag is pretty much all spam. Tumblr needs to fix this issue like now. It’s super annoying and I have never really ran into spam before this? I’ve never even had to report anyone for spam but now I’ve just done 82 blogs and there were a lot more. Hopefully they get removed quicker than they can get added.
use this script - requires greasemonkey (firefox and forks), tampermonkey (chrome and forks; safari), scriptish (e.g. palemoon), or some similar extension:
so as it turns out, staff never actually removed the fanmail feature like they said they were going to, they just removed the link on each person’s blog that made it possible to send fanmail, but it’s still entirely possible to actually send it if you just go to blogname.tumblr.com/send
the system is still there, they just removed the button for it
it’s like that lady who deleted the internet explorer icon i’m crying
Post replies are being worked on to be reintroduced and the fanmail system is being dropped in favor of an chat function. Accounts with the update can no longer send fanmail but your existing messages will still be in your inbox.
There is no word on when post replies will be back, simply that they will and they are going to be improved when they are.
You can disable chat messages from nonmutuals and blogs with multiple admins and private blogs are not capable of sending IMs but sideblogs are.
AKA you can now message someone from a sideblog without giving away your other urls.
You can also delete a conversation or block a person from messaging you from the messenger itself. Unless the person has editted their settings to only receive IMs from mutuals, is a private blog, or is an admin of a group blog, you can message anyone on tumblr.
#bluespace the update looks like this.
That is the situation. Please stop circulating a bunch of incorrect posts because you want to be mad at staff when, really, this is actually a sound and functional update that the userbase has wanted for a very long time.
Good news: We managed to restore the tracked tag URLs to point to the /tagged/ pages again. Update to Tag Tracking+ version 1.6.0 to fix the sidebar links. Classic Search version 1.0.4 brings back the old search bar behavior. To update, you can either wait or manually force an update using the button in the extension’s settings page.
Bad news: We didn’t figure out a proper way of bringing back the numbers of new posts in a tag so far, it’s something we’ll look into though.
Fine, okay. So if you search for “pizza,” then tap “Follow” in the search field, we’ll periodically slip the best new pizza posts right into your dash. Not too many! Just enough to keep you abreast of the pizza scene on Tumblr.
i’m usually pretty chill about updates but this renders tumblr downright useless????/////
a) the reason i track any tags at all is that i want to avoid having to scroll through my dashboard to reach specific content. literally the only reason. can u see the problem here
b) i don’t want “not too many posts”. i need a quick, minimum-fuss way of seeing all the new content in tags that are relevant to my interests
c) people track tags they are more than casually into, which usually means they already reblogged the most popular posts. guess what’s your deafult setting. yep, yes. “most popular”. this means that when you click on the tag you’re following in the search bar what comes up is literally all the most popular posts. i. have. reblogged. these. already
d) the only way to actually see ALL the new, relevant content is to manually type tagged/whatever beacuse your search engine shows also the posts in which the thing i’m looking for was only casually mentioned ARE YOU SHITTING ME STAFF HOW OUT OF STEP WITH WHAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY NEED CAN YOU BE???
Hey everyone! Just a little thing I learned that I thought might be helpful for any non-mobile users:
If you mess up a tag by accident and it’s incomplete or something is misspelled, you can press CTRL+Z to make the tag reappear and continue to write/edit it.
I figured it out by accident, so I figured I might share, just in case!
hey, that supposed comment from Tumblr staff about accessibility not being a concern is fake. staff may have terrible taste but they're not actually assholes on that level.
can we just like, all agree to boycott tumblr for 24 hours to show the staff that we’re pissed about the update? because they have to track usage and stuff like that, and I feel like it would send a pretty big message if enough people did it. like nothing fancy, just don’t use tumblr from 12:00am to 11:59pm, one whole day of nothing, not even mobile blogging. maybe set up one queue’d post explaining why you’re boycotting (so anyone that doesn’t get the memo would know what’s up) but other than that maybe even stop queues (just for the day) to help send the message.
I’d propose Wednesday, September 9th as the day. That’s one week after the update, one week to give it a try, one week to show the staff that we’re not just overreacting to change (the way people are apt to do on the internet) but are serious about not liking the way they’ve changed our blogging experience. That also gives us a week to get this post around the site: long enough to spread it around, but not so long that people forget that we’re going to do this. Maybe set a reminder on your phone or computer so that you don’t forget. I’ll be posting in the tag #updateboycott throughout the week for general reminders and to answer any questions/suggestions.
And please, reblog this. The only way this will work is if enough people see this post and participate to make a difference.
so tl;dr: hate the update? join the boycott of tumblr on Wednesday, September 9th from 12:00am to 11:59pm by just not using tumblr that day.
This is likely to be buggy and imperfect, and is definitely not totally optimized, but it is at least a start at fixing the atrocity that is the new reblog structure.
In response to Tumblr’s formatting updates, we have made some modifications to EditableReblogs to allow continued editing of content above your additions to a post.
PLEASE NOTE!!! This extension does NOT modify how posts appear on the dash. They will still appear in the new layout; this change only affects what you can do with previous posts in the editor. We will probably be adding a separate feature to change how posts display on the dash, if desired, but that is beyond the scope of this update.
As always, we will be standing vigilant for any further developments on how this update works in the coming days. Feel free to bring questions or comments to our support chat, support blog askbox, or GitHub issues list.
