JC, aka GymLeaderLance99 or GLL99 or Lance99. 32|He/Him|NYC. I fansub GX, work on dub/sub comparisons for 5D's (and GX eventually), and have various other projects going. Expect a mix of YGO stuff (and a little ZeXal and SEVENS [which I'm slowly watching]), with some occasional randomness.Duel Links ID: 537-542-930 | Master Duel ID: 999-767-712

Why is it that people pretty much shame you for watching the dub? Like okay, it’s weird, and sometimes just cringy, but at the same time I’m just happy that it’s in a language I can understand. Mostly because I have reading issues, so if I can listen I usually pick up on things I would have messed when I had to read subs. It’s not like I’m like the dub because of what they censor or pull out.

As for why people shame the dub, it is mainly because of bad censoring choices which either changed the meaning of whole plot points (like changing Marik killing his father to “sending him to the Shadow Realm”) to bizarre changes that make you wanna face palm (like instead of Tristan/Honda saying he has to pee on the boat to Duellist Kingdom, he says, “In a few hours, the sun will rise!”) to character name changes. Since a lot of people deem the YGO dub “bad”, they tend scoff it off even more. Because of this, there is a pressure in the fandom to watch the sub since a lot of people see it is as the “true version” and closer to the manga.

To be honest, I’d be lying if I said these changes bothered me sometimes and I vote the subbed version to be the better version hands down, but I have a small soft spot for the dub since it is the first version of the show I watched outside of YGOTAS.  I admit, I normally only watch the dub unless it is is so bad it is cringe worthy (which, unfortunately, YGO falls into that category for me). When I watch the subbed version of anything, I have keep my eyes glued to the computer or tv screen in order to get all the info; this, as you can imagine, is draining and I tend to miss a lot of info on the first time viewing. I watch the dub majority of the time since I can watch it more leisurely and know what is happening a ton easier.  So I can see where you are coming from.

    • #you're basically getting a barebones version of the show through the dub
    • #which is fine
    • #but if you want the veins muscle and skin to it the subs are super worth watching
    • #especially for the spinoffs
    • #but hey if you like the dub you like the dub
    • #and i honestly do still have a soft spot for DM's dub in spots at least
    • #wow this is a lot of tags

Okay but it’s been a full week and I still can’t get over the fact that as Reiji and Reira were walking away, Reiji looked down at Reira and thought “mother would probably disapprove and say that dolls can’t have hearts” and then IMMEDIATELY tightened his grip on Reira’s hand.

  • So I ended up on DM ep.200’s page on the Wikia while I was looking for Kaiba going full V-Chin when

“Spiritual Awakening”, known as “Dark Bakura on the Move” in the Japanese version, is the two-hundredth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! second series anime. It first aired in Japan on April 14, 2004 and in the United States on October 22, 2005. As an homage to the original Japanese series and to celebrate the second series anime’s two-hundredth episode, the opening theme of the English Dub was temporarily changed to a shortened version of OVERLAP (already used in the original Japanese from episode 190 onwards). OVERLAP was kept for approximately 10 episodes before it was eventually changed back the usual Yu-Gi-Oh! theme music.

    • Manga:   Dark Yugi realizes that the number he needs to roll and make appear in the pillar is 33, rolls it, it shows up, and everyone gets out.
    • Toei!Series 1:   the number Dark Yugi realizes is now 66, and he rolls it, but Bakura reveals that it's actually 99 for some reason, and Miho uses the fairy powers that Dark Yugi rolled for earlier, letting her conveniently change the result to 99, for some other reason.

  • Well, it could have been possible Yusei. Blame the writing staff for dropping the ball on a really good plot twist that could have given your character more depth and meaning instead of making you out as the perfect messiah that you became.
