I’m glad they were never any more than friends. Asuka may have had a crush on him, I will begrudgingly accept that that was true at some point in the series, but he didn’t ever return those feelings. He saw her as a good friend and great duelist and she was satisfied with that. It’s nice. More male female friendships please!
The Queen died but honestly, Yusaku Fujiki from Yugioh Vrains has been through so much more. The hardships he faced aren’t even comparable to dying of old age. Until the queen has gone through a fraction of what he has gone through, I won’t feel any sympathy.
unironically the most believable thing any yugioh character has done that still is indeed a weird yugioh thing that no one would do is kaiba asking his cards for forgiveness when he’s throwing them as ninja stars because he doesnt want them to bend or break even though, again, hes using them as ninja stars
Yu-gi-oh GX season 2 is such a wild ride. Like one episode has a master vs student fight while the master talks about a dueling birthright. The next involves a mind-controlling satellite that a prince just hands over? Then Pegasus and Ra just show up out of nowhere.
Season 2 is just a boss rush and it’s so jarring.
worth noting that the mind-controlling satellite was originally a world-destroying satellite but
Hunh, well this conversation is nothing whatsoever like the original. I mean, for the most part so far the dub dialogue has been similar to what was in the original if not exactly the same but for some reason they decided to just rewrite it here. And it doesn’t really make much sense for Aster to be saying something like this either at this point. In Syrus’ flashback to when Aster showed up at their dorm room he already said that he was challenging Jaden to a duel because he heard he was the best. Jaden is also already under the impression that he’s a student at the school because he’s been calling Aster ‘freshman’ and acting like a mentor towards him, so why on earth should he need to wonder why Aster is there? He’s a student, why wouldn’t he be there?
Also, Aster is kind of a lot more arrogant that Ed was here too. Ed pretends to be polite and respectful to Judai throughout the duel even though he privately thinks very little of him at this point. Aster kind of tries to go the polite route a bit but he’s really bad at it and just gives up in favor of being snarky instead. ^^;
Aster does finally get around to mentioning destiny at the end there before he plays his trap card, but it kind of comes out of nowhere with no lead in at all. In the original, Judai and Ed had been talking about how he would need luck in order to draw another light monster that would allow him to activate his monster’s effect again and destroy Judai’s defense monster. Ed draws a Magic card instead and goes on to say that “someone” once told him that destiny and luck are two different things and that who will win and who will lose are things that are already predetermined. Judai of course objects to this because he thinks not knowing what happens next is what makes dueling fun and exciting. Ed just tells him that what happens next has already been decided which leads perfectly into him activating the trap card that he placed on the field much earlier before he discarded his hand and activated the Field Spell. Basically it just serves to highlight Ed’s point that he already had a way to destroy Judai’s monster ready and waiting and so he didn’t need the luck of the draw at all.
So basically I dunno why 4Kids suddenly decided that this was a good time to start making stuff up instead of sticking to the original script, other than to just push the idea that Aster is up to no good I guess.
PSA: please do not leave critiques or hateful comments in the tags of a gifmakers/graphicmakers edits.
It’s happened to me so many times I thought I should make a post about it, but please please, do not put critiques or horrible comments in the tags. The following are some of the things people have put in the tags of my edits and that I have unfortunately had to read:
“I HATE [CHARACTER NAME REDACTED]”
“the wild misinterpretation of That Scene aside”
“[character name redacted] is a villain”
“i dislike this anti-[something the gifset isn’t about] and anti-[something the gifset isn’t about again] nonsense”
“i disagree with [redacted]”
“i dont know about the [character redacted] one, ive always thought she’s a bitch“
Gif makers and graphic makers spend hours making content for fandoms and we often do it for a variety of characters, from an unbiased perspective, at requests, from the perspective of the character as opposed to our own personal view. It takes a long long time to make edits and sometimes they don’t even get the appreciation they deserve.
Reading tags on your edit as a content-creator is one of the nicest things; 98% of the time the tags which do say something in them are lovely and sweet and make gif and graphic makers feel 10x better about their stuff. But every now and then a critique or hate comment will find its way into it - please remember that we can see your comments when we go through the tags. Please make your own personal posts rather than leaving them in the tags, b/c it’s really upsetting to be going through tags on an edit you spent hours on, only to see a comment like one of the above.
I’m continuously amazed by how the Duelist Kingdom duel rules are just…. complete anarchy. Summon what you want; do what you want; nothing is too nonsensical.
You can summon 7 or 8 star monsters just like that. Jou wins duels by aging the other monsters. Yugi wins by… attacking the playing field itself. and attacking the MOON. Which was a spell card. With his own monster card. And beats the Player Killer by “taking out his castle’s flotation rings”. in the anime, Kaiba literally hacks into a card to weaken it. this shit was incredible. the only thing that could limit you was how major of a character you are
