I’ve been trying to find parallels between Judai and Yuya (since they’re both supreme kings) and I finally found this one.
I just really like how “accepting your past self to move forward” is part of Judai and Yuya’s character growth because whether they like it or not, their identities are linked to the person they did not want to be. After all, they duel to have fun, not to bring chaos, which their past selves tried to do.
Also, maybe I just haven’t watched or read stuff that have protagonists deal with their past selves, but I really appreciate how GX and ARC-V handled this part for both Judai and Yuya. I love how they were both able to come in terms that yes are reincarnations of the big baddies and they brought pain and suffering, but they can use the powers that they inherited from the Supreme Kings to save everyone and move forward. Both Judai and Yuya inherited the ability of hear the voices of their cards, so it’s pretty awesome when they both used this ability in a good way in these two scenes and in the latter episodes.
It’s just an interesting concept and parallel and I just love that it brought more character development to these fun-loving protagonists.
Can we talk about the fact that when The Fool spread darkness to one of Judai’s cards in season 4, the specific card it infected was polymerization
This is the same exact card that held all of Judai’s trauma from when he was possessed by the supreme king’s power in season 3– to the point where he had to stop using it because the memories it brought on was making him physically sick. When he finally used it against Johan!Yubel, he had to fight off being physically sick from the trauma it unlocked.
When season 4 rolls around we learn that the adversary Darkness is essentially the negative emotions, the anxiety depression and all of that that people carry with them, and that it can infect duelists’ cards if they associate them with negative emotions. Judai’s deck is fine at first because he has a strong bond with his deck and the spirits, as well as protection via Yubel’s soul fused with his own, but when Saio snuck the darkness infected Fool into his deck the one card that it affected was the one card that was shown to carry his past trauma. And once again, it ends up making him physically sick to carry with him to the point of nearly collapsing.
This probably seems very obvious, but this means that Judai’s darkness is 100% the fear of losing himself again. And if you ask me, it hints at the possibility that he very well could lose control of the gentle darkness power he holds and become the supreme king again. In fact it may be Yubel themself that prevents this, as at the start of the final duel against true Darkness, Judai’s eyes(full of rage and hatred no doubt) turn the supreme king’s golden color before Yubel’s multi chromatic eye color.
I had a final point but I lost it but I’ll just leave off with this being one of the reasons why Judai is and will always be my favorite yugioh protagonist. His character development is just. Some of the most extensive I’ve seen in the franchise so far, and is actually very relatable to me.
this. is. gold. so well analyzed and explained. made me understand much better Johan’s role and impact in Judai’s character (going further than just expose the fact that the words love and i’ll sacrifice everything for you are openly mentioned when they talk about the other, but explaining the whole reason why they become so important for each other).
Happy Birthday to the greatest of pro duelists, smasher of windows, wielder of the Ultimate D, puncher of smiley faces, our one and only magnificent Card Game Batman. :D
Yu-Gi-Oh! Series rated by how many motorcycles there are
Season 0
Season 0? More like season “zero motorcycles”. Were there any motorcycles on this whole shitshow? No memorable motorcycle moments, an utter DROUGHT of motorcycle content. Disgusting 0/10
Duel Monsters
Honda made yugioh history by riding the first motorcycle in a yugishow, just barely preceding Marik “Father of all Bikers” Ishtar. Fourth season of the series made up for its lack of compelling story with a generous number of MOTORBIKES, including absolute legend mai kujaku on motiorcycle. An acceptable amount of cyclin, 6/10
GX
Disappointing number of motorcycles. There was that one monster dude in season three who had a sick ride and that time Judai somehow rode Saiou’s motorcycle in season four despite probably never having acquired a license but like, we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel here. Barely acceptable, 2/10
5D’s
INSPIRING. BREATHTAKING. WHAT ALL YUGIOHS SHOULD STRIVE TO BE LIKE. A MOTORCYCLE IN EVERY EPISODE …. RIDING MOTORCYCLES ….. DUELING ON MOTORCYCLE ……. THE EXHAUST PIPE COMPELS ME 100/10
ZEXAL
Not impressed guys. The only two notable motorcycles were Akari and Shark’s, and sharks probably isn’t even a real motorcycle he’s like 14. I just remembered also Orbital turned into a motorcycle once so like, bare minimum but better than GX. 3/10
ARC-V
A SERIES WITH TASTE …. there were many episodes that lacked motorcycles but the series pulled through with a 50-episode story arc all about motorcycles. Very impressive, a yugioh series of great affluence 9/10
VRAINS
There was like only one motorcycle. A sad part of yugioh history 1/10
The many faces of Yusei Fudo, nr. 3 - That small smile when one of your new friends just learned something new and you’re just really proud of them, version 1.
Honestly, the most important details we got out of this episode is how much Roboppi loves Yusaku! She and Ai check for people gushing about him online everyday!! She gets annoyed when Ai tries to take the credit, and tattles on him! That’s my girl!!
This little housecleaning robot seems to have actually gotten “smarter”, and she using her new brains to adore Yusaku. That’s absolutely adorable. She’s so proud of him!!
Not to mention Ai actually calling Yusaku “master”. And that Yusaku is still capable of scaring the shit out of him.
This is such a cute roid monster? Why wasn’t this made into an actual card? The manga has a lot of good cards that the TCG/OCG is missing out on. I may love humanoid robots, but I love blocky robots like this even more. Its just such a cute design. I don’t really have much to say about this other than: -pointing- that block is my friend.
