“Victim Sanctuary - Be the Star Engulfing Destruction! Stardust Dragon” | “Duel of the Dragons (Part 2)”
Everybody listen! Got this one all nice and redone! In case this is the first you’re hearing about my mini-project here, let’s get you up to speed:
So, the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (21-29)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t salvage much of what they changed). Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here.

Really enjoying how this one came out, even though the script wasn’t as accurate as last episode–requiring me to do what I did with 22 and make use of subs where 4Kids deviated far from the Japanese script that I couldn’t restore the original context–this will only be for this hardsub, as I’ll be offering softsubs on NAC alongside it. Full breakdown below the cut, as it got kinda long, lol.
Enjoy, folks! With this out of the way, I think revising 25 and 26 will be much more of a cinch, as that was when I really hit my stride in terms of editing; adding back some Synchro chants might be all I need to do, but fingers crossed… Meanwhile, I’m slowly getting things ready to start work on finalizing my GX Season 2 subs, so stay tuned there!
5D’s Dub-Uncut 24 (REDO) WIP #2: Duel of the Dragons Incoming
So, as noted before, YouTube has apparently gotten stingier with my WIP videos; it’s been a pain to show off my redone 24 ;_; (The white flashing you might see is me trying to bypass that YouTube nonsense, if it even helps lol)
Anyway, here I’m showing off the Synchro chants from Duel Links being added back for Aki and Yusei; I did tweak Aki’s lines as she’s summoning Dark Verdure to more properly explain its effect, taking some dialogue from 61 that I vocal-isolated (I also swapped her “You want combos? Watch!” line for an “It’s my turn–I draw!” line from 22, and subsequently combined Tanner’s “This isn’t good” with his “Yusei better think of something fast” line from 26 to wipe out his “Here comes the combo she was talking about” line), and I also threw in Akiza’s “Black Binding Bloom” and “Black Rose Flare” from Duel Links as I had her command Black Rose Dragon to attack like in the JP script. Leo doesn’t talk as Junk Warrior’s powered up (I added back some SFX I left out my first go-round), then yeah, Yusei brings out Stardust.
Currently polishing up the part where Aki puts her mask back on, so stay tuned; let me know what you think! Looking forward to using yugidmx5’s newest Hopeless Battle rip~
5D’s Dub-Uncut Episode 24 (REDO) WIP #1: A Rose by Any Other Tentacle
So, YouTube has apparently gotten stingier with my WIP videos, and is now retroactively blocking some of the earlier ones I posted, so it was a pain to even get this much from my newer 5D’s 24 WIP through… I might decide to show some off on Google Drive instead, going forward, if it ends up being too big a hassle.
So, this is my newly revised dub-uncut attempt with 24; I stitched together an explanation for Ivy Shackles to take out her fluffy “greenhouse” comment and make more sense than “under Rose Tentacles’s control,” and I pulled from dialogue I vocal-isolated from 16 and some newly isolated audio from 61 in her duel with Misty, which hopefully sounds good. I took Akiza’s “It’s your turn” at the end of her turn from 22 and later in 24 to wipe her “it’ll take more than that to stop me” line. I did more effect explanation stitching later, including to fix Yusei’s “damage for each of Rose Tentacles’s ATK points” gaffe with Junk Barrage and have Akiza explain Copy Plant’s and Dark Verdure’s effects. I’ll see if I can post those…
Let me know what you think! Currently revised up to about the commercial break, and it shouldn’t be too intensive since 24 was really when I started adding back SFX well and getting into my groove, but adding back in the Synchro chants and using a newer Hopeless Battle rip should be neat.

The Final Match - A Heart Hidden Behind the Mask

Phew, finally managed to get this thing all nice and done! In case this is the first you’re hearing about my mini-project here:

So, this was the first episode I did as I got this mini-project going since it’s a favorite of mine, and now that I’ve gone on to do five others and have a little routine to go at it with, I’ve given it a revision. Overall, the dialogue for this episode was more faithful than usual to the Japanese version, save for a card explanation or two, so with a fluff line cut here and a moved or recycled-from-another-episode line over there, it was easier to make this work with the Japanese episode.
A few parts were essentially done by just throwing in the Japanese version’s dialogue-less audio to eliminate some of the extra fluff, and others were more about rearranging or recycling certain lines to eliminate some more fluff or make my matching the JP script flow better (this happens during Yusei’s thinking about Akiza in his room, for example). Duel Links audio came in handy for the Rose Tentacles scene, and with Akiza’s “enjoying destruction” at the end (which, THANK YOU DUEL LINKS FOR KEEPING THAT). I also moved some lines to try and cut out some of the unneeded SFX 4Kids added; Yusei’s “I counter by summoning Speed Warrior in Attack Mode” was one I made “I summon Speed Warrior!” line to avoid doubling up on Speed Warrior’s grunts, for example, and I did also try to stitch together some lines for better card effect explanations from Akiza. You can see those in action in the WIP videos above (it was Cursed Ivy’s activation and her explaining Rose Tentacles), but in case you don’t like how it came out, I did include a slightly less-edited version of the episode above that uses her lines from the episode (you can see a revised version of the Cursed Ivy stitching in this WIP revision)
Music-wise, I did revise a few things versus Version 1; I realized I looped “The Big Quake” incorrectly near the end as Aki pants, and I fixed the pitch I had “Incident” at in the beginning so the transition to the Japanese track as Yusei walks in the hallway isn’t jarring. Do love hearing Mind Games as the duel begins, though, and Izayoi Battle helps the mood quite a bit.
Let me know what you think (maybe the music’s too low in spots?), but hope you guys enjoy! I’ll be going back to GX and finalizing 50-52 to round out Season 1 finally, but I’ll be working on revising 5D’s 24 here/there while I do to avoid burnout; looking forward to adding back some Synchro chants there. Stay tuned!
5D’s Dub-Uncut Episode 23 REDO - WIP #2: Mind-Game Kickoff
Howdy, people! I’ve been spending the past few weeks going over what I previously did with episode 23 for this dub-uncut project, readjusting the process and editing that went into it now that I’ve established a routine after handling 4-5 of these now. I realized I didn’t share too many WIP clips from 23 the first go-around, so I thought I’d show off a little more of this now that it’s nearly the finished product.
Getting into the duel stuff now (see WIP #1 here), this second WIP has a bit more editing to it. For starters, adding back some SFX that was quiet in the BGM-less mix, with the Japanese audio as usable. Dialogue-wise, Akiza’s “[And] I place…” line had “And” replacing “Next” because I wanted to trim out the SFX from the dub’s DEF counter reveal, I added Yusei’s “Hyper Sonic Slash!!” from Duel Links, then I stitched together Aki explaining Cursed Ivy to move “I bring my Wall of Ivy back!” a bit later and cut out her extra banter lines (here, “In case you can’t tell, I’ve got a green thumb”), and then I fixed a dumb dub error where Akiza tries to imply that Wall of Ivy (a Monster) powered up Cursed Ivy (a Trap). 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ (I may try to make her consistent with “Wall of Ivy” over “Ivy Wall” since it’s bugging me lol.) Then, some spacing-out for Yusei’s thoughts, and a recycled line from 22 to end Akiza’s turn!
Check out this brief revision video I did after it was suggested I try to stitch together a line to clear out some more of Akiza’s fluff; I stitched together an explanation for Cursed Ivy so I could clear out her “remember when I did this” line. Think this came together decently, especially once I added back the SFX; thankfully, I found the right SFX for the vines from episode 24 as Black Rose attacked lol. Akiza’s voice sounds a bit echoey at the beginning of her “now I can equip” line because that part’s taken from 24 once she has her mask back on; I tried to apply an effect to reduce the echo via messing with a filter, but seems I couldn’t do too much, but it’s the only near-usable line I could find where she mentions equipping, so. This’ll likely be in the final product!
Have another WIP video coming (which was split in two to get past YouTube and its copyright shenanigans), so stay tuned; that’ll show off what should be the final version of the Thorn Whips scene with the ending helped a bit thanks to Duel Links’s audio~
5D’s Dub-Uncut Episode 23 REDO - WIP #1: Pre-Duel Jitters
Howdy, people! So, I’ve been spending the past week or two going over what I previously did with episode 23 for this dub-uncut project, readjusting the process and editing that went into it now that I’ve established a routine after handling 4-5 of these now. I realized I didn’t share too many WIP clips from 23 the first go-around, so I thought I’d show off a little more of this now that it’s nearly the finished product.
Here, there was more minimal editing involved; I recycled Luna’s lines from earlier and reverb’d them for the flashback, spaced out Yusei’s thoughts to match JP Yusei’s timing (and reordered a line or two to match JP Yusei), and shortened Sayer’s line to Aki because of the added fluff it got for the dub. Probably not as impressive a clip as some of the duel stuff I hope to show off, but hopefully, you’ll still like it!
Aki: “When [the Trap Card] Cursed Ivy leaves my field while equipped to my Ivy Wall, the equipped Monster is also destroyed."
Akiza: "I really should thank you, because Cursed Ivy gets powered up by my Ivy Wall, so now [the Trap Card]’s stronger than it was before."
Me:

So I’m not sure who needs to hear this, but the Wayback Machine happens to have a good backup of my first 5D’s comparison site on 110mb.com and it has my comparisons up to Crow VS Bommer! A later backup happened when I’d posted 58′s but apparently that wasn’t backed up; hopefully all of the links here still work well? I’ll check them sometime tomorrow to be sure, lol.
Note that obviously my revamped 1-21 comparisons that were up on my most recent site many of you may have seen won’t look like that here but hey, it’s something!
still working on finding a good cheap webhost and coming up with a catchy GX/5D’s-oriented site name don’t mind me

So, this was another interesting one to work with–I think overall this episode’s dub definitely benefits from having the Japanese music at *all*, but getting the dialogue a bit more in line with the Japanese script was the more "fun” task here. A few parts were essentially done by just throwing in the Japanese version’s dialogue-less audio to eliminate some of the extra fluff, and others were more about rearranging or recycling certain lines (some from 23 or 24 when I needed something for Aki) to eliminate some more fluff or make my matching the JP script flow better. I also fixed an error that bugged me from Tanner about the Black Rose being down to her last few “ATK” points; I ran a line of his from episode 7 through PhonicMind.com to remove the music and splice in “Life” there (I actually did that with much of the second half of that ep so I’ll probably try to do the JP OST thing there too~) For the bits that I felt were just too far edited by 4Kids that I couldn’t do much with them, I thought I’d slip in subs for the Japanese version of the scenes so you get the original context in there; that’ll just be for this hardsub, as you’ll have softsubs to work with when I post this for download over on NAC. You can see it in action in this preview here. Also going ahead and translating the “Today’s Best Card” and title cards along with the OP/EN going forward, lol.
5D’s Dub-Uncut Episode 22 - WIP #3: Planting the Backstory Seed
Heya, folks, here’s a newer WIP video as I get more of this episode taken care of! Though I did have to trim a few things out just so I could actually upload it here and not have it blocked for everyone, so apologies for the jumping music. Been a bit busier the last 2-3 weeks as an election I was volunteering on was wrapping up, but I’ve been able to get more done since which is good.
Really enjoyed how this one came together with “Izayoi Battle” fueling the dub, but I also tried to fix some of the dialogue to match the Japanese script a bit more because of how “meh” some of Akiza’s lines here were; the wonky methodology below the cut, if you’d like to see.
But let me know your thoughts! I’ll also be trying to make the mashed-up lines smoother as I quality-check everything before releasing the episode; I’ve pretty much finished it now, and I’m now adding back SFX and QCing with last-minute audio-level tweaking. I’ll share one more WIP which will have the full episode’s link as usual.
5D’s Dub-Uncut Episode 22 - WIP #2: Profile in… Profiling
Here’s a second preview of what’s to come! (WIP #1 here, ICYMI)
This one shows off the start of the Aki/Kodo duel, and there were a few tweaks here to some dialogue to match the JP script more; I recycled Akiza’s “first move is mine!” line from 23 and added an “I draw!” combining a line from Duel Links with a “draw” shout from 23. I also used an “I set a card!” line from Duel Links (to scrub out the 4Kids SFX added to her setting the card), recycled a laugh from Lazar that’s close to his JP laugh, and threw in a “Battle.” line from Duel Links for Akiza to match the JP script.
Otherwise, it’s all kinda as-is from the dub, since I also don’t have much else to work with for Koda. Though I scrubbed Tanner’s “Did he just say Duel Academy?!” at the end since… why. I don’t have a line of Yusei questioning “Duel Academy?” so I left it with him just shocked lol.
The version of “Showdown” playing here is also sped up by about 5 seconds compared to the soundtrack version; wasn’t too bad trying to make that work, but “Dragon” later on in the episode, though… oh, boy.
Lemme know what you think!
5D’s Dub-Uncut Episode 22 - WIP #1: Post-Attempted Murder on Motorcycles
Howdy, people! I’ve been getting some work underway for the next in the 5D’s Dub-Uncut series since finalizing my GX 44-46 subs, and wanted to post a preview a bit ago… but what kept me busy from finalizing said subs extended to getting around to this, lol.
So, just a little preview here for you; I recreated how I ended Dub-Uncut!21, slightly tweaked to match the JP recap’s script, then led it seamlessly into the new audio from 22 proper (save for the SFX around Greiger’s “Goodwin!” scream which we’re stuck with), giving Goodwin the reverb effect I give the MC. I also tweaked what I did with Greiger’s grunts before he screams, incorporating some of Bommer’s whimpers in between his grunts to make it sound more natural.
At this point, I’ve pretty much drafted the whole episode, and I’m now tweaking audio levels and adding SFX where things sound quiet. Also, thanks to Duel Links, I’ve been able to restore Aki’s Synchro chant pretty well, which I’ll show off in a later video once levels are fixed. I also need to find ways to hopefully minimize the annoying Akiza lines against Koda later in the episode…
Some beautiful irony in 4Kids overhamming Aki’s dub dialogue in 5D’s #22: they have Akiza call Rose Curse “a new card–one [Koda] can’t profile” in the only episode it’s ever played in
(which means I have no chance at recreating Aki’s effect explanation there 😭)
I was today years old (again) when I realized one wild Dick Pitt would go on to voice one megane-clad keikaku man REIJI AKABA come ARC-V
