The One Where Manjoume Hallucinates But Also Gets His Groove Back
Having lost to Judai and Misawa, both of lower-ranked dorms, Manjoume left the Academia and roamed about in the ocean, breathing feebly. Under the instructions of an old man he comes across on a mysterious ship, he arrives at the Academia’s North Campus. However, the austerities of gathering cards from scratch and duels with the North Campus students awaited him there. Then, Manjoume at last duels the North Campus’s King. Overcoming all of his hardships to come around in a big way, Manjoume’s skills will…?!
So, this is getting posted late because, like I previously mentioned, laptop issues came up. [It whomps.] I actually uploaded this last Sunday but haven’t had a chance to make a proper post (I did quickly post the link once I saw it processed the next day or two), so here we go. A neat little episode focused on Manjoume rising from the ashes of defeat, said ashes having affected him more than expected, apparently. It’s a good one, though. Also, “King” but I see no JACK ATLAS what
Given my situation right now as I’m transferring files from my hard drive to my external/sister’s laptop to try and reformat it (while also hoping the wine I accidentally spilled on mine doesn’t impair it too badly, smell aside), and the final encode for some reason not saving fully on my drive despite the full upload on Cloudy (though I should still have the second-to-last encode to work with), I’m not sure when I’ll have things uploaded for posting on NAC, so stay tuned. This also throws a wrench into my plans to speed through 25-28 just as I was ready to hunker down, arghhh. (Also hoping I’ll salvage my current ARC-V subbing prepwork) We’ll see what happens.
In terms of fixes, luckily, I think I’m hitting the part of the show where there’ll be less card fixes to do because they’re getting their stuff together, but still did a few here, as well as one animation fix. And before anything, I want to give so many thanks to @alicethedragonvalkyrie for all of her help with editing 200+ frames for the ending “Thanks for Watching” clip so there’s no sponsor text; it took a few weeks to make it look smooth, but the result is super-nice! It’s a shame this footage went unused in either 24 or 25 where it likely should’ve, so I wanted to make some use of this TV-only video~
Also, slight terminology change, as I’ve decided to finally scrap “Instant” Magic in favor of “Quick-Play” Magic. “Instant” always felt a little off but I stuck with it for consistency, so with these revisions and “sokkou” translating more to that, I thought now’s a good time as any. though expect a bunch of reencoding soon
Now, fixes!
Finally finished timing the script for this lil’ guy, and I thought I’d treat you all to a little preview since it’s been so loooong! :D
I love in-betweens.
Remember that episode where Manjoume tripped and talked to a hallucinated Judai
GX 24 - Manjoume’s Coming Back (FIN!)
#ItsBeen84Years
But phew, it’s been a good few months since my GX finalizing was stalled while giving this clip the textless treatment, lol. This extra clip of Manjoume on his way from the North Campus to Academia Island was TV-only, unused in episodes 24 and 25 [the logical placement since the ending sponsor bits recap the episode proper in S1]. I wanted to include this clip with the DVDRip as I work on my hardsub for 24, but with how all the recreated sponsor clips I use have no text on them, it’d have bugged me to include it as-is. Enter @alicethedragonvalkyrie, who was a lifesaver in editing 200 of these frames (the original island shot in the clip was impossible to accurately de-text, so I substituted a shot from… ep9, I think? Just tweaked so it matched the rest of the clip a bit more in coloring), so between her and my tweaking her results into the video in Vegas/doing additional touching up in Photoshop, we get all this. I think I’ve spent the last 1-2 months editing in the frames off and on, but focused more on it in the last few weeks to get it finally done. Thanks again for all your help!
It’s still sorta imperfect in spots, but hey, you can only do so much with how QUALITY the TV raws could be back then~ I might post up the finished shot without the side text as an extra over on NAC.
So, now that this is done, I can start finalizing GX 24′s script! But first I’m going to get a few episodes’ worth of prepwork ready so I can knock out some more episodes in a shorter time-span; I do have a lot of time to make up for here!
GX 24 - Manjoume’s Coming Back (WIP)
So I think I should finally give you guys a progress report on this, haha.
First off, huge thanks to @alicethedragonvalkyrie for all her hard work wiping off the text on soon-to-be all 239-or-so frames in this sponsor clip over the last couple of months! Her working on it gave me a great chance to get my stuff ready for subbing ARC-V, and now that she’s almost done, I thought I’d start working her edits into the footage off-and-on over the last few weeks, with a real buckling-down happening in the last week. While I did, I worked with the original footage to make things look smooth overall–like moving the clouds in one frame across the whole “Manjoume’s back” shot and masking in Manjoume on top as needed–and I like how it looks so far. Then I just slapped on the banner text and audio so you’d get a glimpse at how it’d look in-episode!
The second clip isn’t fully done yet, which is why it looks messy; I’ll go back into it soon as Alice finishes the rest of the frames. While I wait, I’ll look into prepping the GX 24-26 scripts so I’ll be able to knock them out relatively quickly once we’re good to go there, with another prepwork dive into ARC-V sprinkled here/there. I’ve also been tapped to help out with another project that might make waves soon, so stay tuned~
So I posted the other day about doing some minor text editing in BelieveXBelieve’s video to translate “Kaba” to “Hippo on one of the billboards;” I spent today finalizing that, and fixing up my editing-in of Sawatari’s unrevealed cards from my last upload, and getting the credits and karaoke finalized, so BelievexBelieve V1 is all good to go!
I’ve also had One Step ready to go for a month or two now, but wanted to wait for Jake, the guy who set me up on BXB’s styling, to look over my script. Since it’s been a while, and I do think it looks good as is, I tweaked some lines here/there, and now One Step’s all good to go; this is the version for episode 1.
Lemme know what you guys think! Meanwhile, with those done, I’ll start to look into the script and stuff I want to translate in episode 1.
…aaafter I get some ground broken on GX 24, finally. Those of you following my GX subs may’ve seen me post about prepping for ARC-V while some editing was done for a Manjoume post-credit scene that was TV-only. Unfortunately, said editing couldn’t be done–@alicethedragonvalkyrie did a great job for one of the shots, but the other editors I reached out to couldn’t help out due to life kicking into gear–so I think I’ll just slap my “Just After This” stuff on the clip and work with it, text and all. As much as it’d bug me having sponsor text there, it’s a nice shot that’s worth showing off, lol.
So, I’ll focus on getting 24-26 done a little quicker to make up for the delay there, and just knock out the THUNDER!! episodes, then I’ll do more for ARC-V #1. Stay tuned!

GX 24 - You Better Wipe Your Title Cards Right!
(Pictured: Textless edit (left), original (middle), translated (right))
So, episodes 24-26 have this really cool title card unique to that mini-arc while Manjoume’s affiliated with the North Campus, but given the limited use and how the titles in 25 and 26 are two lines and really long, Jake759 couldn’t get this one textless when he prepped all the textless title cards for me to use way back. But since I’ve gotten more used to Photoshop, and I’ve been redrawing parts of Disks occasionally already, I figured “why not zoidberg?”
I first used content-aware filling to get rid of the text, which covered up the text on the right with some more snow which was cool, but it also put bits of the Disk in its place along where the Disk is. So I then redrew the outlines to the Disk, colored everything in, and redrew the lines along the top part of the Disk before redrawing the third Monster Zone that was completely obscured. After all that, I did some Clone Stamping to get rid of the Disk pieces along the middle between the two parts, which added a little more snow too, but hey, it totally works for me. And there’s the end result!
With the text covering much of it up in 25 and 26, I’m sure the redrawn bits won’t be too noticeable, but then for 24 here it’s already looking pretty normal, if I do say so myself, hehe. I’ll just have to mask in the Turn number for 25 and 26 in Vegas, but that shouldn’t be a problem, though they upped the brightness in 26 a bit for some reason. Just wanted to show you guys and see whatcha thought. :P
The One Where Things Are Chill, Man
Wanting to get rid of Judai, Chronos puts Motegi–his ultimate weapon–into action. It’s said that those who duel Motegi become unable to duel again. Judai and Motegi duel, and the Moke Moke summoned by Motegi has 300 ATK and feels very unreliable. But as he adds on Angered Moke Moke and King Moke Moke to change its form, it becomes a powerful 3000-ATK monster that threatens Judai. Meanwhile, as Asuka and the others watch on, they start losing their will to fight.
And 23′s all done! This is a fun one, given the premise; as @morningmoon so aptly put it, it’s “that time there was a child with some sorta laziness aura that required a sorta exo-skeleton space suit to prevent getting caught up in his rhythm, wtf.” Also, he was apparently a #1 student. But hey, we’ve got Manjoume back in action for the next few episodes as he makes his thunderous comeback, so a nice breather–filled with Chronos’s cocky shenanigans (heh)–is nice. Side-note: the Crunchyroll subs were all over here. Still watchable, but slightly off compared to what I’ve seen in general as I’ve worked on these.
Fix-wise, there were only six (all card fixes), but I missed one that I caught as I timed the episode’s script (which I finished last weekend), so that’s what caused the extra delay this week. All below the cut, as usual. Enjoy!
Sooo… with this done, I’ll do some basic prep for episode 24; the main thing holding it up right now is I asked @juslaynice and @prismatic-bell–as well as @alicethedragonvalkyrie–for some Photoshopping magic to get rid of the text on this cool Manjoume clip that played at the end of 24′s TV airing during the sponsor bit that was all-new footage, but didn’t get released on the DVDs. Since that’s the case, I thought it’d be cool to get it textless’d so I could add the “Thanks for watching!” text and add it to the DVDRip, assuming that juslaynice and prismatic-bell can do it. If they can’t (given there’s 150-200 frames involved, I know it’s an undertaking), I could just slap the “Thanks for Watching!” text on anyway as in the clip there, but the sponsor text would bug me; if people don’t mind it, I’ll do that. Or I may just do a “best-of” compilation for Manjoume scenes so far; I’ll check in and see how they’re feeling about it. I just don’t get why a special scene like this didn’t get released somehow, lol.
Meanwhile, once I do my basic 24 prepwork, I’ll probably try timing out a script for ARC-V episode 1 to get that project finally started while they get stuff done. :D Still waiting on some help to better encode the DVD raws, but we’ll see there, lol.
GX Finalized!23 Progress Report! #feelthemoke
So, I just finished timing the script, and since it’s been a bit longer than I expected to have it done (busy past few weeks), I thought I’d show you all how it looks. I’ve already done five card fixes, but there’s one quick one I overlooked, so while I hoped to have this up today (especially given ARC-V’s shenanigans today), expect to see this thing uploaded within the week!
The One Where Judai Goes Wild, Man
The Judai VS Misawa duel continues. With his Fusion locked away by Misawa, Judai struggles, unable to evolve his Elemental Heroes. He fights back against Misawa’s Water Dragon (ATK/ 2600) by powering up his Elemental Heroes with his Skyscraper Field Magic. However, due to Misawa’s shrewd tactics, Judai’s left to face his Diamond Dragon with his field wide open. But Judai summons a new Elemental Hero, Wildman…
Hooo boy, sorry this is only just being done! Those edits early on were the main reason for the delay here–there were a whopping 22 of them! 99% of them card fixes, haha; they’re all listed below the cut. Meanwhile, this great duel between Judai and Misawa continues, and continues to make you wish the two had dueled more often instead of–nope, we’ll just ride out these Season 1 times while we can! It was clever of Misawa to lock away Judai’s Fusion, so watching him come up with a Plan B is nice. Elsewhere, Kunisaki digs up some plot, and we find out more about him; shame he never does come back to let Asuka know what he finds, but oh well.
Enjoy, folks! As I mentioned before, since I was going to start subbing ARC-V soon, alternating between it and GX, I was planning to start timing episode 1′s script (I just finished most of my prepwork for One Step), but given how long this took, I’ll knock out GX 23 first, lol. Expect that in the next week or two.
Any journalism majors out there? I want to translate this from GX 22 so I can finally finish the episode, and I need a common shorthand or acronym for “confidential” so I don’t have to squeeze the full word on it. It’s this envelope Kunisaki gives to a couple who paid him to dig up some dirt. Worst-case, I guess having “confidential” in full can work, but curious to see if anyone might know~
