Sunshine - A Soaring Hallelujah | GX Season 1 OP 1 (Finalized!Subbed)
Here’s Sunshine/“Kaisei Joushou Hallelujah” as you’ll see it in my finalized Season 1 episodes. I thought I’d try something new and tweak the font style a bit for the lyrics there, slightly inspired by Horoko’s TnKP subs for 5D’s, and make the whole thing look a bit sleeker (which I’ll also go back and do for the other OPs/ENs as I work my way back up). I’ll be tweaking the font style in the episodes a bit too; should be a good way to tell my finalized episodes apart from my older subs if you’re surfing the web. :P Also used the translations I used for that fandub a while back (which I admit isn’t the best lol) to update my lyric translations there.
Special thanks (as the thumbnail shows lol) to thepalebride and aahes for their help in getting text off of that Manjoume freeze-zoom! :D EDIT, 4/17/22: At some point in the past few years, the version of the OP with Manjoume’s scene as a freeze-zoom and not a slow zoom, along with the different background behind Asuka/etc, was released on a DVD that was put online–as a result, I was able to use it for my subs, and the video above is from that.
Hope you all like it! I’m still getting things IRL a bit more stable, but I should at least get episode 1 finalized over the next week or two, so keep an eye out!
Battle on the Edge (Genkai Battle) | GX Season 1 Ending 1 (Finalized Subs, Ep.1 Ver)
Finally got this all done! Here’s the ending as you’ll see it in finalized!1 when I get to start working on it. After all that tweaking I did to the video, I like how it came out! And I tweaked my lyric translations too, since I felt they were a bit too literal before lol. I was going to use “Borderline Battle” but I found it hard to word some of the lines with it, and also I thought it’d imply “a battle but not a battle” more than “AWESOME BATTLE ON THE EDGE [OF OUR SEATS]” so I wanted to just make it a bit more explicit that that was the idea. And so, “Battle on the Edge” (BOTE) was born. I also worded the lyrics with an eventual singable translation in mind, so keep an eye out for it! [once i finally post my believexbelieve one]
Some of the staff names may or may not be off, since there were a surprisingly ungodly amount of Japanese staff who initially worked on GX (as opposed to the mainly Korean team later) and not all of them were on ANN or on webpages with their name’s romaji, so I had to look them up and go with the more common readings. If anyone knows them a bit better, let me know!
Enjoy and let me know what you think! I just have to update Kaisei a little, and then I’ll be able to start finalizing episode 1. :D
Borderline Battle (Textless - Revised) - WIP
So I’m just about 90% done with this thing! This is a peek at the splits happening over the bridge of the song. Notes like last time:
All right, so after that, I noticed that the textless version also doesn’t keep the flickering going on in Thunder Giant’s that-thing-Ironman-has-in-his-chest, so I quickly masked it in and it’s good to go.
So I would be done, except I noticed that the textless version (which I’m using as a reference for the final video) splits Chronos and co out about 10 frames too early compared to the TV raw version, which means that split-out is a bit out-of-sync with the song. All I have to do, though, is just mask in their split-outs over the cards you see in the pan 10 frames later! That way, there’s no sudden card-jumping or me having to work on more of a long pan image lol.
So yeah, this should all be done by this weekend! Then I just have to put Kaisei together, and I can start working on those subs for these!
Borderline Battle Textless (Revised) - WIP
So I think I got things nailed for the early part of the video! And it was less painful than I thought it’d be lol. Rundown:
Now, I just have to work on the later split part! With any luck I’ll have this all done in the next week or two.
So I was feeling a bit inspired tonight. :P
I finished up the first main part of the card pan in Borderline/Genkai Battle that I asked about in this post. It probably looks a bit iffy in some areas because it’ll go from smooth to blurred; the blurred parts are from the parts of the pan where the splits come in, since the pan’s in motion, and odds are it won’t be noticeable in action.
My plan now is to mask the TV video onto the textless one just before this pan (when the cards just appear and spin) to throw in Death Koala and Harpie Girl, since they’re replaced by King’s Knight and Gazelle in the textless version, along with all the split-screens. I also kept Mirror Wall here instead of Gorgon’s Eye to keep consistency with the seconds before this pan in the spin. All the while, keeping the image positioned so that once everything’s masked in, the jump to the TV video won’t be as noticeable as it was in that clip. And then I’ll work on the pan and do everything for the later part. Here’s hoping this works lol.
idk you can use for whatever if you want
Quick upload to support this post I have here. Basically a sneak peek of the parts of Borderline/Genkai Battle where Judai and the others slide into the screen, only made to keep the transitions that they have in the TV raw version instead of the piling-up that happens in the textless video. As with the Manjoume thing in Kaisei, I have no idea why they changed that for the worse. *shrug*
OK, random thought, but has anyone in the fandom ever tried to put together a full image of the cards panning in the Genkai/Borderline Battle ED? Specifically the parts with Judai and co split-screening into view, and probably from the TV ending since the splits are piled onto each other in the textless video.

Just ‘cause I want to put in the un-piled splits, transitions and all, and it’s hard to mask in the cards correctly as the transitions happen. Mostly since the screen’ll jump because for some reason, the cards are farther up in the textless version compared to the TV version, and they also changed a few of them so I’ve been masking them in as stills and moving them accordingly. So I figure having a full pan to work with would make it easier to just mask the splits in, and then once the Chronos/Shou/Hayato full-screen split comes in, it’ll be easy to go back to the textless version.
I already had a fully edited version I did a while ago with the screen jump, and worst-case scenario, I might just use that if it’s hard to make a full pan (I’m trying to make one in Paint and it’s not as detailed as I’d like; one corner of a card would be perfect, yet another one misses a few pixels on the cut/pasted portion…). Might just have to go back and edit a later part that I couldn’t completely get rid of text in, if anything, though the subs’ll probably cover it up. Take a peek at it here.
But yeah, if someone would be able to help, it’d be awesome.
So I’m going back to the messing around out of boredom I was doing with Kaisei a while back while prepping stuff for Season 1, trying to make a few still frames during the Manjoume zoom-out match the original “textful” video where it “froze” on him for a few frames before showing Judai

and kinda hit a snag. I want to mask Manjoume from the textless video to get rid of the lyrics at the bottom, but the problem in doing it with the sky is that, since the textless video slowly zooms out here while the textful one stays put for some frames, you can see the clouds shrinking. The cloud background is also a bit different between the two versions. And because of the slow zoom in the textless video, you don’t see his cape flowing in the wind as much.
So I wanted to put it out there and ask if anyone good with Photoshop or whatever can edit those few frames (which I’ll cap and send) to get rid of that bit of credit text (if you can do the lyrics too, even better). I’ll cut right back to the textless video’s zoom-out, so it shouldn’t be too shabby. If someone can, I’ll name-drop them during the OP credits!
So it was GX’s 10th Anniversary this week (10/6), and I figured I should finally getting around to reuploading this AMV I made ages ago as a tribute to GX. The song’s a self-cover of “Shuffle” (DM OP 2) by Okui Masami, and I made this during my “make a GX AMV out of DM songs” phase way back (a project I still want to get back to lol; I’m up to Rakuen!). Of course, a lot’s changed since then; I have better-quality raws and working knowledge of Vegas, so as a result, expect this thing to get remade in the near future with more stuff I couldn’t throw in because I didn’t have the episodes at the time (like Fubuki VS Fujiwara or Kenzan meeting Judai, etc). Enjoy, folks!
Also, in other GX stuff, in case you haven’t seen it, I started up a petition to convince Marvelous Entertainment (the guys who released GX’s measly two soundtracks) to release another Sound Duel to cover GX’s unreleased music, as well as one to cover 5D’s’ missing stuff. We’re only up to 40 sigs, though, so if you haven’t signed it, and you love GX and 5D’s and the music that made them as much as we all do, please do so here if you can! The goal’s to eventually forward it to them, and see if we can get this done (since fan outcry was one of the forces that got ZeXal a Sound Duel 5), so any boost would help (here’s the Tumblr post for it if you’re wanting to signal boost it).
I’ve finally gotten this petition online! I’ll probably touch it up at some point (and if anyone wants me to add anything, let me know!), but there it is, and it’d be great if this got spread around like wildfire. I’ll also try to plug this to Japanese fans by making a video on my Nicovideo account, but hey, let’s get ourselves a GX Sound Duel 3 and/or 5D’s Sound Duel 4! Or at least some kind of statement, because skipping 40+ awesome songs in GX and 20+ in 5D’s for no reason really makes no sense. Yu-Gi-Oh! series always have great soundtracks, and it’d be nice to appreciate both GX’s and 5D’s’ in full.
EDIT (10/13): Up to 40 signatures! Thanks to anyone who signed, and if you haven’t, please help out if you can! WE CAN WIN, WE FEEL GREAT, WE. CAN. DO. THIS. UGH.
Yutaka Minobe - An All-Out Duel (formerly "A Duel Frenzy") WIP - Update
So just to illustrate the point I made in this post a bit, here’s what this track would sound like if I mixed in the vocal-removed track (sampled from 172) for the downtempo part of the song after the splicing for the parts before. Here’s the original, sampled from 80, for comparison. It’s not terrible, but I’d just really hate to not have those instruments there since they make the song, but every time the song’s used, there’s SFX/vocals/etc in the way. :/
Okay, does anyone want to help me get a petition going to get Marvelous Entertainment over in Japan to release another Sound Duel for GX? Because as much as I like working on these rips, these tracks that are impossible to keep with the original instruments would sound disappointing (I’m up to my favorite part of “A Duel Frenzy/An All-Out Duel”–the chill downtempo part of it–and it’s hard as hell to get much of it clean from its limited 15 uses in the show, and it sounds awkward without that one instrument coming in toward the middle in the vocal-removed version [hear it in action here]).
And hey, it worked for ZeXal fans: they’ve got a Sound Duel 5 coming in November thanks to a lot of fan outcry…
放送終了後も未収録音源のCD化を望むお声を多数頂きましたことを受け、今回の発売が決定致しました。
*quick translation by me*
“Many of you voiced your wishes for CDs of the soundtracks that went unreleased even after [ZeXal]’s broadcast concluded, and that led us to this next release.”
…so if anything, it can only help! GX’s 10th Anniversary is also coming up soon, so there’s our special occasion!
Or worst-case scenario, someone has some audio-editing knowhow to tell me how to remove the vocals but keep those instruments (probably something involving frequencies if I had to guess), or someone can maybe help recreate the instruments or something idk
Yutaka Minobe - A Duel Frenzy (WIP)
Just a little update on the project, since I’ve been slowly working on this track for the last week, give or take thanks to work. I really could’ve sworn this song saw more airtime, but it surprisingly only played 15 times throughout GX! Which means it’s a bit hellish trying to get a few seconds here and there completely SFX-free, hence a few points where I’ve been inserting the vocal-removed version of its sample from 172 (which I used since it loops the first bridge/“verse”[/whatever lol] a few times [a part that some of the other uses skip or truncate). It’ll sound a bit better once it’s all done and I add some more reverb to that vocal-less track and move things around a bit, but here’s a taste!
I also kinda want to change the name I’m giving it; maybe “An All-Out Duel?” To fit how it’s used with Alice or Manjoume VS the SOL or Kenzan at a few spots (especially his Pair Duel with Judai and Asuka, and his duel with Sorano), and also how Tanya and Judai had that hand-to-hand duel lol.
Yutaka Minobe - A Touching Moment
And here’s the last short track for this release! This thing only played twice in the series (in a flashback with Judai/Hayato in 9 and as Shou leaves Red in 56), so it’s definitely the least-used unreleased track, and interestingly enough, it’s also tied with a piece I’m calling “Resolution” (plays only when Chronos looks at all the grad pictures in 167, and when Shou’s by Judai’s bed in 109; that’ll be done after I get these tracks done). As a result, the beginning lead-in was hard to get intact, so I had to remove the vocals for it. Then the sample from ep.9 gets most of the song, and it would’ve gotten it all if it hadn’t been for Kuzuo’s “HMM…” towards the end; that’s where I switched to the ending bit from 56 to cover it up, keeping the footsteps for a second or two, and then going back to the 9 sample for the end. Because it’s not an ideal fade-out there (with birds chirping near the end and all), I cut it short just before the chirps and crossfaded with silence, and then added some reverb in Cool Edit to give it a fade-out.
Enjoy! I’ll be cracking my knuckles for the first longer theme, “A Duel Frenzy” (aka Tanya’s Theme) next.
Yutaka Minobe - Suspenseful Encounter
Rip #6 all done! Here’s Suspenseful Encounter (working title, since I feel it could use a better name but I have no ideas lol), played about 25-26 times in the series, putting it up there with A Close Call. This track wasn’t too hard to work with, minus the “why can’t I get this ONE second clearly” thing. The beginning comes from 29 after some static-removal, and then most of the track is a re-reverb’d vocal-removed version of the sample from 103 and then 93–the latter of which gives us the fade back in towards the end. I was debating whether or not that was either a new part or part of the opening fade, but the fade goes on to keep fading in as the new piano part kicks in, so I kept it.
Enjoy; one more short track left!
