(Cross-posting from NAC, and I started with 54 first; adjusting for order)
Hey, sure! Try this post by se-to-oh; she also has posts with ways to watch the other series, if you need ‘em!
Friendly reminder that you should be watching GX in Japanese through my subs with this handy stream masterpost :)
The One With the Copycat (Part Due)
The Judai VS Yugi’s Deck duel continues. Judai struggles against Kagurazaka as he masters Yugi’s deck, and it’s already 1300 LP VS 4000. The 2800-ATK Black Magician of Chaos, Black Magician Girl, and even Chaos Soldier overwhelm him. As he’s even cornered mentally, Judai gradually loses his cool and is on the verge of giving up on defeating the Duel King. But before long, he realizes a strength he has that his foe doesn’t.
And here’s Part 2! A few days after DSOD’s release, but still timely haha. Highlights include Shou’s going gaga over BlaMagi Girl, Chaos Soldier - Envoy of Creation/BLS - EotB’s first/only anime appearance, and “Gotcho!” As I said last time, this two-parter’s one of my favorites, and it was nice revisiting it.
Of course, the revisit wouldn’t be complete without a bunch of footage fixes! Specifically, card fixes, which made up 90% of my fixes here, lol. List below the cut for the interested, as usual–a whopping 16 altogether! Enjoy!
GX 19: A Few Cards Short (WIP #1)
Spent most of the day editing away my anxiety for primary results, lol. onto next week it is I’m knocking out my fixes before starting on the script, and between the three fixes I had already done while working on 18′s preview (two shown in the first and last caps) and the ones I just knocked out today, I singled out 15 fixes to work on, 90% card-related because I’m a detailed dork. I love that he has a Magic Card in his Monster Zone just ‘cause (and that he doesn’t fall off his cliff during that ACTION SCENE), but I still don’t get how Winged Kuriboh’s card was just cut off there. gg card guys!
The One With the Copycat (Part Uno)
Yugi Mutou’s deck will be on display at the academy. But the night before, the deck is stolen by Kagurazaka, a Yellow. Kagurazaka defeats Shou in seconds and appears before Judai. Judai and Kagurazaka duel–in what is also Judai dueling Yugi’s deck. Kagurazaka studies all there is to the techniques of the top duelists–he flawlessly masters Yugi’s deck, and finally even summons the Black Magician.
What better way to tie into Darkside of Dimensions coming out in Japan than to finalize this duel? :D
This is one of my favorites; you have an interesting idea in Kagurazaka as a copycat duelist, some nostalgia as he uses Yugi’s deck (and one point to the dub here for using some DM music), and Judai trying to hold his own against it. And Chronos somehow knocks down four people, nbd.
And as with the last 5 episodes, there were a bunch of fixes I worked into the episode, because you’ve got to love it when the staff gets lazy–list below the cut! (EDIT, 2021: Two new fixes applied, listed in bold under the cut!)
And special thanks to @akameniseis for swearing at Photoshop translating the Yugi poster in the beginning and the flier in Kagurazaka’s room a few minutes later! :)
Enjoy, guys; I’ll try to get the next episode done by next week in time for/just after DSOD’s release! (But there’s a bunch of fixes already to take care of, so we’ll see… XD;)
The One Where I Start Doing A Thing (WIP #2)
(View here, since Dailymotion took it down)
So, I’ve been slowly working more on this! Just hit the commercial break, and as I said before, I managed to edit out the dub’s music to add on the original OST, while also editing the dialogue to play more in line with the original a bit more (meaning some lines were shortened (like with Henrietta scolding Dipper) or muted (and with scoffs/whatnot, I might recycle them in spots)) Notably, I also made Julia’s lines as Yuzu’s reaching for the Action Card fuzzy like they should’ve been. I also added other SFX as needed to make it sound a bit more natural; luckily, using a vocal remover on the DVD audio let me hold onto most of the original SFX pretty much perfectly (ambient and all, which meant I was also able to get good rips of the alternate tracks in this half/abrupt cuts to work with). Compare it with the first WIP vid I made, and you’ll see the difference, lol.
I started here since episode 10’s a personal favorite, and the dub was also surprisingly good for its first half. And this actually came out sounding pretty good! If only they could’ve officially stuck with the original music… Also, not entirely sure what I’m going for with the footage haha. I started out trying to make it an alternate dub track, then decided to keep some shots they cut (like Yuzu flying after Diamond first hits her directly) but then cut others since they were undubbed (like Sora explaining Hand Fusion, which I had no fluffed-up dialogue to add there) and fixed the music accordingly. Maybe I’ll just make it another track for the raw and just leave in the original audio… Hmm.
Lemme know what you think, haha.

Prepping to work on subbing 18 when
Interesting case here, since the full version’s PV is already out. I translated this with the TV version in mind, but the third line on comes later in the full song (and the “uso ja nai” line starts with “baka ja nai” instead). I’ll transcribe the full song and work on a full translation later in the week, but meanwhile, here’s this! Really digging this one too, and I’m eager to see what the ARC-V animation is for it. hurry and come out already dsod Enjoy!
(And if you want me to translate something, I’ve opened up to commissions, since the money can always help. Details here!)
(Other ARC-V Translations: BelieveXBelieve BURN! Future Fighters! Unleash/Hanate ARC of Smiles! Trump Card/Kirifuda Speaking Light of Hope (TV-Size) Vision (TV-Size) / Other Translations)
Whipped this up really quick; it’s actually grown on me the more I sang along to the song, haha. I love the refrain before the chorus, and I liked the chorus itself, despite some people not liking it for some reason. I mean, considering the song’s name and all… :P (Also liked the nod to the Circus Action Field Yuya dueled Reiji on.)
Subject to change once the full version’s out, but that said, enjoy!

In honor of Trump Card serving us for only 23 episodes as of today, I thought I’d finally get around to posting my translation for this one. It’s really grown on me, and the lyrics don’t get more motivational than this!
Also included the romaji lyrics, since I never saw anyone post them; have fun!

For anyone who’s reblogged my masterpost of 4Kids’ DM uncut-dubbed episodes, I just updated the links in it (because no one told me they were down until recently :P), so you may want to give the original post a new look!
Oh no, don’t get me wrong; I’m liking it too! I figured that might’ve been what they’re going for, and the contrast between earlier in the arc when he was always so composed and over the last few weeks when his plans have blown up in his face has been fun to watch, haha.

^Probably my favorite face of his this episode, btw.
The One Where They Draw Things
Judai tries to buy a rare Golden Eggwich, but he learns that they’ve been stolen by someone for a few days now and are all gone. The culprit seems to be one who’s really good at drawing, stealing only the Golden Eggwich out of the other sandwiches that look alike on the outside. He captures the former Blue-student-turned-half-wild, Taizan–one who’d devoted a year to Mother Nature. The duel’s Judai VS Taizan, and Taizan’s deck is a recklessly bold deck relying only on drawing.
And it’s all done! I kinda like this episode more than 16, especially since Mrs. Tome gets a role to play. Taizan’s an interesting “filler” character with his whole nature sabbatical who probably should’ve gotten more appearances, but he at least returns in Season 2 which is cool. And Judai uses Rampart Gunner for the third episode in a row, lol.
On the technical side, I got to fix a line I was mostly unsure about the first time around, and fixing it now, it was an easy line to type out haha (”When you stole them, I could never get them.”->”Until you went and stole ’em, I was never off, either.”; keep learning, kids!). And as with this mini-”filler” arc, there were a bunch of fixes I did to the footage; mostly card edits for consistency, but notably trying to fix a huge error in the episode–how do you forget part of a Duel Disk? Full list of the fixes below the cut, as always. Also, decided to go with “Drawiches” and “Eggwich/etc” over “Drawbreads” and “Egg Bread/etc” since, despite it being more of a dub thing, I think it does work better.
I also set myself up with a few episodes’ worth of Preview/Thanks For Watching clips to help move between episodes quicker. I’ll prep some more for a few more batches when I’m able to. Enjoy, guys; next time’ll be the Yugi’s Deck episodes, and I should have 18 ready in the next week or two!
