Very quick trial run of my new translations for Judai’s first event in TFSP. Fraps only taking 30-second videos will bite; I might cave and get the full version lol. I’ll post a better video later today, but here’s this for now!
also ignore the choppy music my laptop’s dumb with ppsspp
Tag Force Special - GX Translation Progress
Some shots of what I’ve done so far tonight. Turns out someone else posted a somewhat-translated script on XenoTranslations, but I figure since I’ve started, may as well keep going lol. Also helps getting to put a personal touch on it, since I’ve worked on GX for so long. I’ll be working on this bit by bit while I focus on Season 1, maybe a heart or two for each episode (since playing it while I translate would help me get the context, though since I’m up to Judai heart #2 on my phone, at least I’ll know the context ‘til then).
So to make up for how late I got 5 and 6 posted, I’ve already posted episode 7 on NAC, so go get it while it’s hot! You’ll also find links for 5 and 6 a post or two up. :)
Here’s episode 7, all done! Judai and Shou are sentenced to death by cards expulsion by dueling for sneaking into the Abandoned Dorm, so they duel to feel each other’s decks out. now that has to be some kind of innuendo…
Enjoy, guys! Expect 8 in the next two weeks (hopefully sooner, but that’s so I have some leeway haha).
Did some minor animation fixes in a few spots for this one, too:
GX Finalized!Episode 7 - Progress Update
Some quick few screenshots to show you how far in I am so far; I’m up to Shou starting his turn after the commercial break. Tweaking my ETA for Friday just to give myself some leeway lol. I’ll also be trying to tweak the footage once I’m done timing; a few minor animation errors here and there. Stay tuned!
So thanks to Lolsaurus on NAC, we have a HQ recording for episode 1 of the German ARC-V dub! I just gave it a watch while comparing it side-by-side with the original, and well…
Editing-wise, it looks like it’s on par with early 5D’s with how they think they can make a scene better by switching shots around (which they did with Yoko’s “he’s reinventing himself” flashbacks). They also cut a few of Nico’s mannerisms, like his intro bow and what he did with his hand when he said he’d offer the SVWM system for free, and they got rid of the cards behind Ishijima on the big screen (probably because it’d be hard to edit them all lol; likely why they also cut the panning shot of the buildings with the familiar monsters before it goes up to the LEO/LDS tower). Added (sometimes scene-extending) dialogue is sprinkled everywhere, too (don’t like how Yuzu talks after Yuya falls down, before/after he does that face), while they trim/cut a few other shots (like some of Shuzou or the shot of everyone looking on at Yuya before he thinks of Yushou). And they cut the part of the flashback where Yushou says the pendulum can find things, and when it’s used again later. At least they did keep a few bits of silence, though, but the music, while decent, doesn’t sound all that impressive compared to what it has to compete with.
I’m surprised they kept as much text as they did, though, at the Stadium. A few banners were textless, but some were either translated or had “Ishijima” replaced with a sledgehammer, for obvious reasons. And while they got rid of the names on the VS screens (which I expected to get cut like they were in late 5D’s; they should’ve thought of this earlier; fun fact: when the German dub got to that point, they were basing it on the Japanese version, and they edited the original names with their dub names), there was one shot of Yuya on the big screen as his LP fell with his name still there lol.
And yeah, they replaced some SFX here/there, notably the counter-appearing and stat-changing ones, though it sounded like they kept the one when the stat’s set. Why, though… And yep, no real color-scheme editing. The perks of a HQ recording. :P
So yeah, editing-wise, disappointed with the dub already. Early 5D’s was torture to sit through dubbed (even when I ground through it for my comparisons haha) because I was so into the original and hated the changes they felt they had to make, having been the first YGO series I watched in Japanese from the get-go, and it looks like it’s a repeat with ARC-V’s dub. At the very least, I noticed some lines in the German dub matched the original a bit (or at least mention the Engrish used there), so it may not be a total washout. Have to wait for the English dub to make a full judgment, but there’s that for ya.
Just to point this out, since I’m seeing it so much:

I’m about 99% sure they didn’t edit the red out of everything; keep in mind that our source for the German dub was a LQ camera recording. Once/if we get an HQ recording, or we get the English dub in HQ first, we’ll be able to confirm that. But I wouldn’t see any reason for them to edit the color schemes anyway.
at least it’s not an annoying easy-to-fix green tint
Is there an English card patch for TFSpecial out there yet? I signed up on XenoTranslations and have been checking it but haven’t seen anything. I could play through it as is but it’d take extra time for me to read all the cards I don’t know haha
After an UNGODLY WAIT I MEAN HOW HAS IT BEEN A MONTHHH
*ahem* Here’s episode 6, finally finalized! Judai and co. start wising up to Titan’s tricks, until it turns out it’s not a trick anymore. Welp.
A few quick fixes applied:
Overall, not a bad episode, and the translations should make it a good watch; a lot of the lines, while not inaccurate, were updated to go with my style/voice for the characters. But enough rambling; enjoy!
Dragon Ball Z Kai Episode 2 (OST: Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s)
So I said before I’ll be going ahead on this side-project, replacing Yamamoto’s music with Yutaka Minobe/Wall 5 Project’s work from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s’ awesome soundtrack–just so there’s a consistent soundtrack I can watch the show with, and also just messing around for some fun–and I’ll be sharing it for whoever’s interested in seeing how it pans out. I downloaded some 320kbps rips of the first two Sound Duels to get some good quality in here, too.
Here’s episode 2, and I like how a bunch of things came out. First, “D-Wheel, Take Off” is probably the recap tune I’ll go with (hoping it’ll lead to a good payoff come 96), and I worked in the-azure-wind’s suggestion using a shortened “Yusei Battle” for the title card. My favorite placement is “Mind Games” as Raditz talks about his plans (IT WORKS SO WELL), but I liked a few others too haha.
Enjoy!
Finished up 5D’s!DBZKai #2 last night, and figured I’d show a quick preview using that scene I talked about last week that works really well with “Mind Games,” for anyone who’s interested. I’ll probably have the thing uploaded tonight after work, since I don’t think I have any more volume-tweaking to do. Enjoy! I really like how this part came out haha.
And episode 5’s now all up and finalized! For real this time, though!
Judai ignores warnings and goes straight for a zone in which one could say danger lurks about. Making it a… DANGER ZONE. *shot* Also, Titan’s first appearance.
I also fixed a little animation error with Titan’s Genocide-King Daemon when he throws it on his Disk; for a few frames, it originally became a Normal Monster before switching back to an Effect Monster, so I did away with that. I also fixed the goof with Judai having two Mirror Forces in his hand, one of which should’ve been Fusion/Poly. Because inconsistencies like that bug me. :) The fix will be in the DVDRip when I post it on NAC with the script.
Enjoy, folks! Hoping to get episode 6 done by the end of next week. I’ve gotten a new job starting next week—one that’s a consistent weekday 9-5!!—so things might get to pick up once I’ve settled into it. or I might get time to get back to my 5D’s comparisons finally too We’ll see.
Phew, actually managed to fix this little goof-up! Took only about an hour or so in Vegas haha.
So, on the left is the pan shot used for Judai’s hand originally; in the middle is my edit to replace the second Mirror Force with Fusion, and on the right is the dub’s fix. I took the image from the Wikia (the version used in 5D’s), resized it accordingly, applied a quick + chroma blur and dimmed the contrast on it so it blended in well. Also masked Judai’s thumb and Mirror Gate over it. Unfortunately, the image wasn’t of the best quality to make out where Mirror Gate ended and Mirror Force began as I masked, so I also grabbed an image of Mirror Gate, masked in the left side so it was on top of the Mirror Gate already in there so the card edge was more defined. Then I just had to redo the pan shot, keyframing it every 15 frames and crosschecking with the original pan until it stopped 106 frames in; then it was just a still for another 24. Kinda funny that the original pan also pans and then suddenly stops instead of it slowing down, but hey, makes it easier for me to make it look like it was there!
Good to see the dub fixed this, too. Either they got told what that was supposed to be, or they actually kept track of his cards (like I did just to make sure) and knew that Judai used Pot of Greed to draw Sparkman and Mirage of Nightmare and already had Fusion in his hand. Minus the time they gave Yugi and Arkana a Ra that kept shifting hands and other things they did in DM, I think they do a good job of at least fixing original card errors. But we’ll see how good as I go along here. XD
I’m working the new pan into the DVDRip now; I’ll be giving the hardsub a quick fix and get it reuploaded soon-ish.
help i’ve meme’d - for real this time tho
