The One With the Vanishing Act
And episode 5’s now all up and finalized! I might have to just look at a line for a minor edit when I post it on NAC, but we’re good to go here. Judai ignores warnings and goes straight for a zone in which one could say danger lurks about. Making it a… DANGER ZONE. *shot* Also, Titan’s first appearance.
I also fixed a little animation error with Titan’s Genocide-King Daemon when he throws it on his Disk; for a few frames, it originally became a Normal Monster before switching back to an Effect Monster, so I did away with that. I do feel like tackling the error with Judai’s two Mirror Forces in his hand, but figured I should just post this for now lol. If I get to it, I’ll update the stream link.
Enjoy, folks! Hoping to get episode 6 done by the end of next week. I’ve gotten a new job starting next week—one that’s a consistent weekday 9-5!!—so things might get to pick up once I’ve settled into it. We’ll see lol.
(If you want to reblog this, make sure you reblog it as text so my post there shows up with the link. Stupid Tumblr being stupid.)
Here’s a 720p RAW of the remaster. And here’s a 406p raw.
Thanks for that! Shame this whole remaster thing is just a lazy crop-job, though. :/ Also disappointed that those shots of Jou/Honda/Anzu in VOICE and the pictures over Genki were just stills (and the panning with the VOICE ones adds insult to injury). The asymmetry going on (especially at the beginning with the Eye) also bugged me, and I didn’t like how the “20th remaster” thing looks on the breakcut, pasted RIGHT onto the Puzzle. At least they kept the shaking for the logo, though.
Meh, guess all that’s left is to hope an accurate dub’s on the way sometime for this. Then, we can just mux it onto the original video lol.
After some Remaster Googling, found this link with screenshots and comments about episode 1! (Note: most suffer from jpg-compression syndrome)
So, from the looks of it, the footage gets cropped top-and-bottom with nothing added to the sides to make up for it (like in DBZ Kai). Also, reading some of the comments, it seems Shunsuke Kazama might’ve re-recorded his lines for Yugi and Dark Yugi? One mentions Dark Yugi not sounding as monotone as he did before.
The bigger things, though, are probably the OP/EN edits. Aside from “20th Remaster” added to the logo in the beginning, shots from the episodes replace those shots of Jou/Honda/Anzu in VOICE, as well as some scenes of Pegasus and Yugi added over the ending verse, and the Pegasus still/Yugi and co stareback seems moved to fit into the last line in the song. Meanwhile, An Energy Shower/Genki gets a pretty big overhaul; instead of just the puzzle box with different pictures in it, we now have the puzzle box in the background with shots from early Duelist Kingdom on top of it, starting with Yugi solving the puzzle and Jou/Honda teasing him.
No raw to watch this all in motion yet, from the looks of it, but I feel like the cropping could’ve been done better, at least.
Also, what’s a remaster without some QUALITY still sticking around?
Also wow, I love that song “Mysterious” from Sound Duel 3 as much as the next guy, but Japanese!Pyramid of Light may as well have married it
The One With the Compensating
Here’s episode 4, all nice and finalized for ya! Judai faces Manjoume in a potential rank-up duel, and faces a fearsome combination in the process.
Also, for my convenience while working on the stat counters, I edited the zoom-out on XYZ when it’s summoned so the counter originally there doesn’t zoom out along with everything else. To do it, I kept the first two fast frames, then slowed the rest of the pan up to where the counter shows up to last the whole shot, and then just masked in the counter used for XYZ in episode 111. XD (Fun fact: look closely at the dub when the counter pops up, and you’ll see that 4Kids got tripped up with it too!) The only downside is I lose the flashiness in the background, but it’s probably not that huge lol. When I post the script's DVDRip, the edit won’t be in there, since I don’t keep the counters’ subs in anyway. (EDIT, 2021: I applied some animation fixes I didn’t do the first time around; listed below under the cut, with fixes I previously applied in italics.)
Enjoy, guys!
Dragon Ball Z Kai Episode 1 (OST: Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s) | cloudy.ec - Your next generation video portal
All right, so if anyone else out there is at all familiar with Dragon Ball Z Kai, and have been since the onset, you’ll know that the show went through a sort of soundtrack hell ever since Kenji Yamamoto, the guy who originally composed the OST, was found to have plagiarized a bunch of tunes from big-budget films like Avatar and Terminator. In Japan, this was discovered just as the Gohan VS Cell finale was airing, which prompted a rushed last-minute replacement of his OST for 96-98 with some of Shunsuke Kikuchi’s old soundtrack for DBZ. Which isn’t terrible, though if you followed DBZ:K early and got into Yamamoto’s music like I did, it was disappointing. They were also apparently only working with a certain amount of tunes, since a lot of them played repeatedly (also Cell-arc stuff during the Saiyan arc wat).
As a result, the episodes released with Yamamoto’s score began to disappear as they were replaced with re-releases featuring Kikuchi’s, which happened here in the US, too; the original Nicktoons airing got as far as the early Android Arc before switching to Kikuchi, and we got up to near the end of Goku VS Freeza on DVD with Yamamoto before subsequent Parts and Season Sets were released with Kikuchi. And now there’s a new composer for the Buu arc, Norihito Sumitomo. A lot more info about this can be found here, if you’re interested.
But anywho (since I’m sure I’m digressing a bit haha), ever since, fans have manually reinserted the Yamamoto score into later episodes, but for a while there was a slight “meme” going on where people would use the OST from other shows on DBZ:K, with music-less clips thrown out onto the web. So I got the idea (while working on YGO Bonds Beyond Time’s rescoring) to try DBZ:K with YGO tunes, and I thought 5D’s would fit well. I’d also done a video a while back with Goku’s SS Transformation to JACK Battle and “Light and Dark” that came out awesomely lol. I finished this a while ago, but haven’t had a chance to work it into the video file haha.
So here you go! Feel free to give it a look and tell me what you think. I might be tempted to try this some more lol. The idea behind the music was to treat it the same way 5D’s/the Sound Duel CDs treated it, mirroring the tune selections 5D’s had going in the Fortune Cup arc, for the most part. The title theme’s a WIP, though; did want to slow down the 5D’s title card theme to fit it but it sounded weird, and I think I tried using the end of “Yusei Fudo” for it but it didn’t work too well, so I just looped the TC theme a bit. I tried haha.
Hey guys, just letting you know I’ve finally posted episode 3 over on NAC. Sorry it took so long, a bunch of distraction happened lol. Episode 4’s in progress, already got BOTE/Genkai, the preview and ep-ending clips done, so I’ll be putting the latter two into the DVDRip and then start timing. ETA: Next week sometime, most likely.

The One With the MELANZANE
Fresh off my laptop, here’s finalized!episode 3, all up and loaded! This was a cool one to revisit since it was always one of my favorite Season 1 episodes. You might also be able to tell I had some fun with Chronos’s lines here and there lol.
Also did a little minor fix to the footage; I fixed part of a zoom-in to Asuka (“I think I have an idea”), and when Asuka and Judai were getting started, I fixed it so Judai’s half of the split-screen showed him zooming out at the same time as Asuka (originally, they were a frame or two apart, which kinda bugged me).
Enjoy, folks!
The GX dub can be a GOLDMINE sometimes.
(Left the “I AM NOT A BOY” part to also show how they trimmed the shot of the girls so you can barely tell more are there; they went on to scream in the Japanese version. lol)

Update (10/2/18): ALL THE LINKS HAVE BEEN UPDATED! I was told the links to my subbed!GX masterpost might’ve been down when Videa.hu just refreshed the video IDs, so I thought I should update the links on this list, just in case! Please let me know if you find that the links are down, and always check the original post in case they were already fixed!
So I had these lying around and, after some discussion earlier, decided to upload them. This is the uncut dub 4Kids produced with FUNimation way back in… *google-fu* 2004 WHOA WHAT HOLD ON TEN+ YEARS AGO?! WHAT–I MEAN HOW?! :O
*ahem* Anywho, yeah, produced back in 2004. This dub kept the original music and OP/EN, card designs, as well as the original dialogue. How well it was adapted is now up to you to judge. :P Some original names were also kept in spots (like Sugoroku over Solomon), while one instance sounds good in theory, but not so much in practice lol. It only went on for nine episodes before the plug was pulled, with a fourth DVD going up to 12 already planned. The main excuse tossed around was that 4Kids didn’t want them to compete with sales of the dub DVDs (while, while stupid, given it was 4Kids at the time…), but after looking it up on the Wikia and seeing a possible legal rights issue listed there, that seems a lot more plausible. Especially given the contract issues with Yugi’s Seiyuu, Shunsuke Kazama, that were only recently cleared up IIRC for the Crunchyroll subs. And since the Japanese-audio versions were on the DVDs too, it does make sense. But who knows, maybe with the DM remaster going on, they’ll reconsider resparking the project.
And back in March 2016, I spent a few days resyncing the uncut dub’s audio to the Japanese DVD rips (Zero-Raws for 1-4, then Astral_Union’s for 5-9 since ZR had some weird frame rate issue going there). I also tweaked the audio a bit; for one, I added back the more human-like monster sounds (Cyclops/Hitotsu-Me Giant, Crocodilus, etc) that were cut for some reason where no one was speaking over them. And I also made the prologue about the History of Gaming consistent through all nine episodes (originally, it’d either be scripted slightly differently or had different inflections) by using the prologue as used in episode 8, which was much closer to the original’s style. I’ll post these up for download on NAC sometime soon, so stay tuned.
But anywho, enough backstory. Here you go, guys; enjoy!
For more uncut episodes, you can look into watching the Singapore dub; also keeps the original music and dialogue, but they use the dub names and the voices/acting (but mostly the voices) can be a bit wacky at times, DUDE! Still, they made it up to Mai VS Marik at last check, so they have that working for them. It was up on Dailymotion, but currently only two episodes from it are up.
Also, while we’re on the topic, while Googling for the Singapore dub, I dug up this petition asking 4K and Konami to consider an uncut redub. It was made last summer; why not try and boost it? :D (Also, we should all mention the DM remaster going on in Japan as a good excuse to do it lol)
Not awful, per se; honestly, if you look past the mostly minor thing or two wrong with it (like the occasional acting irk and slight inconsistencies), it’s an enjoyable watch. Like I said in that other post, I feel like they started hitting their stride around episode 6 and really started getting it by 9; seeing them go on would’ve been really cool.
But yep, now that I’m home, I’m uploading them now :)
HAPPY NEW YEAR PEOPLE

Been meaning to answer this one haha. I actually wouldn’t mind doing it, except I’ll kinda have my hands full with my finalized!Season 1 GX subs. XD Depends on how my time looks around then, if I’ve gotten a bit more stable IRL and whatnot. Would be cool given my more-rekindled interest in DM thanks to the manga. Also depends on what the remaster turns out to be, too (like if it’s just touchups or if we get some Kai-ish treatment in terms of filler); I feel like GX_ST’s subs already work well enough (save some lines here and there) for the original material lol.
where is that ‘ALL MEN HAVE THESE EXPECTATIONS’ with v-chin!kaiba post i just saw part of in the #yugioh tag it’s glorious
