In which SAIOU HOW DID YOUR HAIR GET LIKE THAT AGAIN
And the conclusion to this two-parter, and to Saiou’s screentime in GX! Also featuring some more sassy/smirking!Judai. Enjoy, folks! Tune in again next week, and remember: cool guys don’t look at explosions~
Fun Fact:
If you have Volume 5 of the 5D’s manga (or Ride 33), turn to page 21 with Jack’s “The duel[ing] of one who creates possibilities! The duel[ing] of a King!” lines. Have “Jack Battle” cued up. Turn the page and start playing “Jack Battle” as Jack starts his turn. Imagine everything happening as it would in the show, and it’ll flow perfectly ‘til the end of the chapter.
I played it while reading it on the train the other day and I was surprised then again not really that it worked so well haha.
In which SAIOU ON MOTORCY–I mean, UUUUNMEEEEEIIII (wow haven’t said that in a while)
I was worried my wifi would fail me, but here’s 170, all up and loaded for ya! Saiou makes his return, having to duel Judai to save Mizuchi from Darkness, but will he manage it? Find out next week when 171’s done!
(But no this is still one of my favorites, and those scenes where Saiou talks about Mizuchi and where Judai gives his answer to “fate” near the end were great. It’s nice that Saiou came back into action when the soundtrack improved so much since Season 2 haha.)
can we all take a moment to appreciate how lazily put-together the italian opening for season 4 was?
it was so much worse for 156 where they just pasted the song over Teardrop with the drums kicking in a lot earlier oh the tone whiplash
Okay so first Taiki Matsuno plays the Agumon line, now JACK’s Takanori Hoshino is playing that “I’ll never say it out loud” dude Ivan, and looking at the Digimon Wikia, fuckin’ KENN is Kouki (lip-ring BioThunderBirmon dude; I’m amazed I didn’t pick it up when I heard him) [and mind you, Kouki and Ivan show up in the SAME EPISODE], and the dude who played Costello in GX is SaberLeomon. AND MR. T IS MASARU’S FATHER WHAT
BUT ALSO SAVERS IS GETTING INTENSE DAMN
[sorry, all these voice coincidences are just really amusing]
In which repressed memories galore. Also, Mr. T confirmed for being hella creepy.
Another on-time episode?! :O I was really looking forward to this one, though, it’s a good one. We get some tragic O'Brien backstory as it slowly breaks him, and we actually see his mom, while we see a bit more about how Mr. T employs the darkness in someone’s heart as a weapon. Enjoy, folks! 170-171 are also some I’ve been looking forward to–more Saiou lines to write!
In which we start a fun dueling tournament that–oh, stuff’s gone south in Domino City, too. Huh.
Well, this is the first episode I’ve gotten done on-time in a while! XD; Here’s 168 for you, where we start off the Graduation Duel tournament while Trueman decides to start his assault on Domino City. Also, Judai somehow knows how to drive a boat. Enjoy, folks! Expect 169 around this time next week, it’s one I’ve been looking forward to. :)
All right, so Sorano has a Permanent Magic called Seal Formation that lets him get back a card with “Seal” in its name in his Cemetery. He plans to use it to get back his Defense Seal Magic card and beat Judai (switching Cross Porter to Attack Mode and beating it with Horus LV8).
Keep in mind: Defense Seal became “Stop Defense” in the TCG. And any such cards in that Seal archetype (stuff like Anti-Spell Fragrance/Magic-Sealing Fragrance, Block Attack/Attack Seal, etc) lost the “Seal” in their name when put into the TCG. So guess what card probably won’t ever be released! :P in the TCG anyway
Now, the Italian dub, being mostly accurate to the original at this point (bless), translates Sorano’s sentences about Seal Formation accurately. Including using the word for “seal” for both Seal Formation (Formazione di Sigilo [spelling may be off]) and when he hints at what card he’ll get back (one with “Seal” in its name). And so, when he says he’s planning to get Defense Seal back with it, he still says “Blocca Difesa”/“Stop Defense”, which… kiiiinda doesn’t have “seal” in its name. lol
Probably could’ve been avoided in this case had they called “Seal Formation” “Stop/Block Formation” instead. Or if Konami or whoever went with “Block Attack, Block Defense,” and “Magic-Blocking Fragrance”, either/or. XD
wow I thought the clock episode in 5D’s was kinda bad but it figures the dub made it worse
-Zola explaining why she’s so calm with Yusei and not Crow->“oh I’m just yelling at you because my son’s coming and I need PRACTICE” also the fact that she already knew he was coming
-for some reason, Lyndon wants to be a duelist and just randomly squeezed in a clock-repair class; pretty sure Leo left to study clocks.
-“I used to tie my father’s bowties too”->“psychic dueling and bowties, my specialties”
-Leo trying to fix the clock by starting up the stopped gears->Lyndon just tinkering around. also WILL. NOT. SHUT. UP. during his flashbacks.
-apparently Yusei knew Crow planned to lose on purpose, even though Crow set Mirror Force possibly still trying to win, and JP Yusei mentions it being a turnaround card
-JP Crow’s “You don’t get do-overs in life!” line is replaced with something else
-ALL THE TIME PUNS
-also Lyndon calls his Clock Knight a “Clockwing” at one point. there’s a joke in there somewhere
I mean I thought this was the stretch of episodes where they were starting to be more accurate to the script wow
My revised version of the-supremeking’s photoset
In which CHRONOS.
insert delay apology here has it really been 2 weeks since 166
All right guys, all done! Chronos gets teary-eyed at the thought of parting with the seniors, to the point that he pulls some stunts to prevent them from graduating. Enter former–er, still–Dropout Boy, Judai Yuki, to set him straight. Merry Christmas, folks!
Guess what I just figured out how to do! :D
So I forget how my mind wandered onto doing this (a mix between rewatching GX 180, thinking an insert song over the last scene might’ve been nice, looking into vocal extractors, finding a tutorial about isolating vocals on YouTube…well, that actually sums it up), but after finding a tutorial on vocal extracting, I figured I’d try it on Teardrop (since I realized it’s one of the few GX mp3s I have in high quality, and also the vocals are nice). I guess even 320kbps has its limits though, since I got the peaks matching as perfectly as I could yet there’s some bits/pieces of the music left over. I wonder how good it’d turn out with .flac files…
Enjoy!
Also, just for the record, did Kaz say ZeXal would be the last series again at all, like he did about 5D’s? If he didn’t, at least we can say he didn’t back out from that again for Arc-V lol.
idk yeah, Yuya’s ZeXal-ish design’s got me slightly iffy on it, but I’ll give it a few episodes and see if it’s engaging (I mean, going back to the “have stuff happen in the first 10 episodes” thing from GX and especially 5D’s would be good). Maybe by then I’ll catch up on ZeXal and Vector’s shenanigans I’d love having a series to watch through from the get-go again like I did with 5D’s; those old times on Janime staying up late for the Fortune Cup/Dark Signer arcs were fun haha.
I also saw someone on that NAC thread suggest having Chiaki J Konaka come in as head writer, which would be really cool given how he did Digimon Tamers (haven’t seen Lain but heard it’s pretty f’d up; also seems Yoshida’s done decent stuff with ZeXal, but it’d be interesting to have someone else take it up).
idk I just hope this series turns out awesome enough to have Masaaki Endoh record some songs for it again
In which MANJOUME THUNDER!!
And now, the conclusion to this great two-parter, here’s 166! Manjoume takes a little step into Ed’s shoes, the two eventually facing off thanks to Mike. Enjoy, folks!
Special thanks to the-supremeking for helping out again! :D
Speaking of the DM manga, anyone know where I can find most of Volume 9/Duelist Vol.2 with Viz’s translations? I’m up to chapter 77, and this and a few other chapters (like one of the puppet!Kaiba ones) are fanlations mixed in with the Viz chapters; I like consistency, and the fanlations aren’t HK-subs horrible (then again, they have “niisama” in there…), but I’d rather the VIZ ones (or some better fanlations, if anything).
If not, I’ll deal with it, but figured I’d ask lol. *jumps back to finishing GX 166*
