More Fun Yugioh Facts:
Kaito’s name is supposed to be the Japanese pronunciation of the English word “kite, so his dub name is actually the same as his Japanese one. “Kaito” is a Japanese name, but you can tell that the writers meant for it to be “kite” because of the letters used. All of the Japanese names in Yugioh are given kanji, but Kaito’s first name was only given katakana. Katakana is used for words that come from other languages.
Haruto’s name was also in katakana. You’d expect his name to be the English word “heart” to match with “kite” (since both are shapes), but that would be pronounced as Haato instead. Their shared last name has kanji btw.
In GX, “Edo” is just the Japanese pronunciation of “Ed”, so he has a fully English name.
